Schacher Construction awarded bus barn bid
Schacher Construction was the apparent low bidder among the 7 submitted for the shop/bus barn called for the by school district.
Even that bid came in higher than what was expected and superintendent Rene’ Forsmann asked architect Rhonda Wemhoff to come to the school board meeting and provide some options.
Schacher’s bid came in at $383,815 and Wemhoff presented some change order options that would save substantially.
The Schacher bid was approved and change orders in the original bid specs. that could cut about $45,000 from the cost will be implemented. One of the change orders including eliminating making the bus bays so that doors could be added at a later time. That cut down the size of the building quite a bit. They would also lower the building six inches, cutting the amount of fill needed. It had been originally bid to put it 18 inches above the ground to eliminate possibility of groundwater problems. It was felt reducing that to 12 inches wouldn’t create any problems and it would reduce the amount of fill needed. This would reduce the cost by about $10,350.
Changing the roofing material to PBR panels would also reduce cost about $11,500.
In other business the board approved a budgeted transfer of $37,000 from the Federal Forest fund to the General Fund. This is the portion of the K-1 building sale that was budgeted to help reduce the levy amount.
The board also approved a transfer of $29,225 from Medicaid to the hot lunch program. This was also a budgeted transfer.
A resignation letter from Millie Wimer was approved. Forsmann said they will be advertising that position.
The override levy for the 2016-17 school year was discussed. Forsmann said she doesn’t have all the state support numbers yet but thinks they should be able to go with the same amount as last year. The legislature is talking about restoring funding to 2009 levels, which will help, but expenses have gone up over the last 7 years, They are also looking at a 7 to 10% increase in insurance costs as well as a one-time textbook purchase as they bring the math and language arts curricula are being aligned this year..
The override amount will be set at the March meeting.
In the facilities report Forsmann said the high school office remodel looks like it will come in at a lower cost than expected. The renovation will be done over Spring Break with cabinets being added in June. Cost estimate is about $8,000 as opposed to the $10,000+ originally expected. Funding comes from the maintenance fund which is where the forest fund monies go.
