Fatal accident near White Bird
At 8:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, the Idaho County Sheriff's Dispatch Center was advised of a vehicle off the roadway on Deer Creek Road. Deputy Mike Brewster and Grangeville Ambulance and Extrication responded.
The 1997 Dodge pickup had been southbound on Deer Creek Road and failed to negotiate a curve at milepost 5.9.  The vehicle went off the roadway, rolled multiple times and stopped approximately 225 feet down the ravine.
Dustin L. Stamper, 31, of Grangeville and Colin G. Sprute, 48, of Orofino, and formerly of Cottonwood, had both been ejected from the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.
The incident occurred sometime the previous night and alcohol is suspected to have been a factor.
Both victims were taken to Blackmer's Funeral Home and their families notified.
