Lady Pirates lose at Genesee
The Prairie Lady Pirates were finally able to play a league game as they traveled to Genesee Monday, April 18, but wound up losing 0-9 to the defending state champions.Hailey Danly comes up ready to gun out a Genesee runner at first after knocking down a hard infield grounder.
Prairie started well as Kylie Tidwell led off the game with a single to left and stole second. After an out Hanna Ross also singled to left and Tidwell was held at third. That was as close as Prairie would come to scoring though as a popup to short and a fly ball out to center ended the inning.
Prairie only managed 1 more hit, a leadoff single by Sarah Ross to start the third inning, and two walks the rest of the game as Genesee’s Kayla Cornell held them in check. Any time Prairie made good contact the ball wound up going right to a Genesee fielder.
Meanwhile Prairie’s Hanna Ross like she hadn’t pitched in almost two weeks, which she hadn’t as Prairie’s last game was 13 days earlier due to all the rainouts.
Ross walked the first 3 Genesee hitters then gave up a hit and another walk before getting an out. 2 more hits led to a 5 run inning for Genesee.
Ross gave up only a walk in the second but an infield bloop hit and 2 more walks in the third led to coach Jeff Martin making a pitching change. Faith Uhlenkott came on and had a rocky start as her first pitch hit the batter in the foot and forced in a run. A single, a walk and then a passed ball with a runner on third led to 3 more runs as Genesee took a 0-9 lead. Uhlenkott then got out of the inning with a short fly ball to Hailey Danly at short and then a grounder to Danly for the third out.
Uhlenkott pitched well in the final 3 innings allowing no more than 1 baserunner an inning as Prairie avoided getting 10-runned.
Prairie had just 3 hits in the game, a single each by Tidwell, Hanna Ross and Sarah Ross.
Hanna Ross allowed 4 hits and 8 runs in 2 1/3 innings with 8 walks and 1 strikeout. Uhlenkott allowed 3 hits and 1 run in 3 2/3 innings with 1 walk and 2 hit batters.
Prairie is now 0-1 in league play and 4-3 overall.
