Clearly, the struggle today in economics is between the far left liberal socialist, wanting action from national governments and banks when problems arise, and the opposing claim of the free enterprise person who has more trust in and who relies more on the individual and the combined efforts of individuals operating in a climate of freedom.
Some observations here are quite easy to prove: 
1)That our United States, in its early history, obviously fitted best the free enterprise category. Historians generally agree that the first Europeans who came here came in search of  religious, economic, and political freedom. And once here, they proceeded on their own to build a civilization which became the envy of the entire world!!
2)That those first settlers eventually drafted a government based on a Declaration of Independence which placed importance on a Creator God, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights...", and a Constitution which set up a national government with very limited powers. Article I, Section 8 lists roughly only 18 powers that the federal government can exercise, then quickly in Amendment 10 adds: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are RESERVED to THE STATES respectively, or to the PEOPLE."
3)That a study of our last 250 years shows a slow growth in the willingness of we the people here to slowly increase our trust in government and central planners to solve problems which arise from time to time. In other words, more socialism!
So what do we have today?
1) A government so involved in our daily lives that it has run up a national debt over $19 trillion dollars, and still growing, expected to add another $300 to $500 billion in 2016. And a resulting inflation that nibbles on our purchasing power and threatens to get completely out of control in the future!
2) Candidates for president that openly call for more "free" benefits for its citizens, free education, free medical care, free lunches, etc., all of which require either additional taxes on the productive citizens, or more increases in the national debt. More socialism!!
Specifically, what do we see just recently?
1) An order from the Obama administration just last week that all public schools "must grant transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms of their chosen gender identity." This involves also a federal lawsuit against the state of North Carolina which requires students to use the facilities consistent with their birth gender. (See the Lewiston Tribune, 5/14/2016). Hmm!! Where in the Constitution does this power come from?
2) Salvage logging on the Selway blocked by a decision of a U.S. District judge. (See the same Tribune). This decision came despite the approval given earlier for "13,000 acres " of burned over ground involving "34 million board feet of timber from the fire scar" with "900 local jobs" at risk. The article goes on to say that "the potential harm to the Wild and Scenic corridor..., as well as the potential harm to the river system from the erosion and increased sedimentation, outweighs the hardship caused by the delayed timber harvest."
All know of course, that delays in harvesting logs in burned areas causes a loss in their value. And one wonders, where does this power come from? Not the Constitution! 
Examples abound by the dozens, but the point is: actions like these are unconstitutional! The authority for them is not found there, and thus represents another loss of freedom!
