Free conference directed at landowners affected by 2015 wildfires
‘Life After the Fires: Living for Today and Planning for Tomorrow’, a conference directed at landowners that were affected by the 2015 wildfires in North Central Idaho as well as others interested in wildfire in this region,  will be held Saturday, May 21, at the Life Center Church in Kamiah.
University of Idaho Extension, North-Central Idaho Wildfire Restoration Group and the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests are presenting the free conference.
Attendees will learn about conditions that led to the 2015 wildfire season and how a coalition of local, county, state, regional and national entities—the North-Central Idaho Wildfire Restoration Group--are working together to facilitate recovery and restoration in the aftermath of the fires.
Representatives of the Restoration Group’s Technical Team will share key findings from post-fire assessments, with an explanation about how private landowners can use this information when developing future plans for managing their lands. Additional presentations will address resources for wildfire recovery, the prospects for wildfire in the region and methods to reduce the risk of severe wildfires at the landscape scale.
Agencies and other vendors will have booths where landowners can get information on products, programs and technical assistance to help them recover their property, as well as reduce the risk for severe wildfire in the future.
Sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and presentations begin at 8:30 a.m.
An optional field tour will follow at 3 p.m. with Dave Summers, Idaho Department of Lands.  Meet in the parking lot to carpool to field location for demonstration on survivable space creation to reduce wildfire risk around homes and other structures (locations to be announced at conference).
The conference is free and open to the public. Lunch and light refreshments will be provided. To help organizers plan for conference set up and food, please RSVP by Wednesday, May 18. Call the Extension office at 208-476-4434 or email clearwater@uidaho.edu to RSVP.
