Pirates take 4th at State
The Prairie Lady Pirates finished in fourth place at State as they couldn’t get past Notus, who beat them twice. The game started in a downpour and pitcher Faith Uhlenkott had a lot of trouble gripping the ball to throw strikes. She gave up 2 walks and a hit batsman and allowed 6 runs before the game was stopped after the leadoff hitter batted for the second time. After a 3 hour delay, Notus added 2 more runs in the first inning after the restart. Prairie scored 2 each in the first and second innings to cut the lead to 4-8. Notus added 2 more runs in the third to make it 4-11. Prairie scored in every inning as they wound up with 12 runs on 12 hits but could never get closer than 4 and Notus put it away with 6 in the seventh inning. Faith Uhlenkott and Sydney Bruner each had 3 singles in the game while Hailey Danly had a double and Kylie Tidwell, Hanna Ross, Sarah Ross, Sam Remacle and Abbie Uhlenkott each had a single. Hanna Ross pitched in the game and got off to a rocky start as she gave up a run in the first inning and 2 more in the second on 4 hits and a couple of walks. Prairie’s bats came to life in the bottom of the second. Leadoff hitter Sarah Ross crushed a ball that hit the fence on the fly but that was negated by a ball coming into the field from the other game. She wound up flying out to third. Bruner followed with a double to left and Remacle walked. Abbie Uhlenkott dropped a flare into right for a single to load the bases. After a second out, Tidwell reached on an error with Bruner scoring. Danly then stepped up to the plate and crushed a 1-1 pitch, knocking it over the fence in straightaway left for a grand slam homer, her first ever. That put Prairie ahead 5-3. In the fourth inning Prairie really pounded the ball. Tidwell led off with an infield single and Danly was then walked on 4 pitches. Hanna Ross then pounded a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left for a 3-run home. That forced a change in pitchers for Potlatch. Faith Uhlenkott greeted the new pitcher with a double to right center. Sarah Ross hit a dribbler in front of the plate that the catcher pounced on and threw past the first baseman. Uhlenkott scored and Ross wound up all the way around at third. Bruner hit a grounder to third with Ross getting put out at the plate. Remacle walked and Abbie Uhlenkott followed with a 2 run triple to right. Sarah Seubert grounded out to short with Uhlenkott scoring. Tidwell then pounded the ball to the fence in right center for at least a triple. She went too far past third and got caught in a rundown but was able to get out of it and score to give Prairie a 13-3 lead. Hanna Ross set down Potlatch in order in the fifth and the game ended on the 10-run mercy rule. Prairie had 10 hits in the game. Tidwell had a triple and 2 singles. Hanna Ross had a homer and a single and 3 RBI. Abbie Uhlenkott had a triple and a single and 2 RBI. Danly had a homer and 4 RBI. Faith Uhlenkott and Bruner each had a double. Hanna Ross pitched all 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Potlatch 1 2 0 0 0— 3 5 3 Prairie 0 5 0 8 x—13 10 2 Prairie jumped out on top with 2 runs in the first inning and 1 in the second for a 3-1 lead. Notus tied it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and went ahead with a run in the fifth. In the sixth inning Prairie scored twice to take the lead but Notus tied it in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh Prairie loaded the bases with 2 out but Tidwell hit a long fly ball to right that the rightfielder made a leaping catch on to end the inning with nobody scoring. Notus then put the leadoff runner on in the bottom of the seventh and a similar fly ball to right went for a hit for them and the winning run scored. Prairie had 12 hits in the game with Danly collecting 3 singles. Remacle and Abbie Uhlenkott each had a pair of singles. Tidwell and Faith Uhlenkott each had a double and Hanna Ross and Seubert each had a single. Hanna Ross pitched all 7 innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits. Prairie ends their season with a 16-7 record.
