Theatrical production set for this weekend
To thank the community for all their support, seminarians Michael and Christopher Hattrup are producing a play this week, with local teenagers as the cast.
“True Image,” written by Michael Hattrup, takes place in Rome, Italy, in 1608. It is the gripping story of Cristobal, a Sardinian pirate, who has been commissioned to steal the veil of St. Veronica, which has been kept at St. Peter’s Basilica since the 400s. His wife Chiara and their son, Simon, travel to Rome when they get news of his capture.
In Rome lives a noble man, Claudio, and his daughter, Seraphia. Chiara, Simon and Seraphia all become wrapped up unknowingly in this plot, due to their individual devotions to St. Veronica.
The story develops into a tale of mystery, friendship, repentance, betrayal, forgiveness, kidnapping and heroism. Today, we are not certain where the true veil of St. Veronica is because there are multiple groups who claim possession of it.
This story is a blend of fact and fiction to provide an entertaining, faith-filled and educational story surrounding the veil’s disappearance.
Performances are at Summit Academy Gym on Friday, July 1, at 7:00 PM and Saturday, July 2, at 1:30 PM and 7:00 PM.
Donations are accepted to cover production costs.
