No. 63 7/4/2016
A look at the news lately and a look at the date cannot but cause an older person like myself, for lack of a better title, a RED NECK, a serious moment or two of real concern!
The date, July 4, 2016, means that just a historical short time ago, 240 years to the day in fact, a famous document we should all know about , the Declaration of Independence became reality, and provided the springboard for the greatest experiment in freedom and prosperity in the history of the world! Accepted fact, no argument!!
Maybe it would be a good time to review parts of that famous document! It begins:
"When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with one another...and to assume...the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them..."
Note the "equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them..." Is this not a ringing call to believe in God and His Laws? The Declaration continues:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness--that to secure these rights governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed" and that if a government "...becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it..." Notice carefully:
"...ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL," and "... ARE ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR..." Also note: "...GOVERNMENTS ARE INSTITUTED AMONG MEN, DERIVING THEIR JUST POWERS FROM THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED..."
Can anyone dare claim that our country is not based on a belief in God? And the consent of the people? Or that it has not been the most successful government in the history of the world? And is not the first one of any significance that has put the people in charge? 
So what recent headlines should cause patriotic Americans genuine concern? For starters, knowing that two of our contending presidential candidates are recognized socialists!! And that current polls show the leading socialist ahead in the coming election! This despite the fact that all historical experiments with socialism have ended in disaster, in loss of freedom and destitute poverty! And socialism puts men in charge while denying the impact of God!
Oh, yeah!! The "conservative" candidate has released his proposed budget if elected, calling for even a greater increase in the national debt! (See the front page of the Lewiston Tribune for July 1). If elected, he ignores the danger posed by our current $19 trillion debt, and adds recklessly another $11.5 trillion to that debt over the next ten years, while his "big spending" socialist opponent would add only $250 billion over the same period! Both of these increases are "on top of the $10 trillion increase that's already expected under current law" according to Marc Goldwein, senior policy director for a Responsible Federal Budget. Hmmm! Is this not enough to worry a concerned patriot? What about ISIS killings around the world, and even here? Still not concerned? Well, maybe keep reading the daily news!!!
