Lady Pirates win 1, lose 2
The Prairie Lady Pirates played 3 volleyball matches this past week. They won their lone league match in 3 games against C.V. and lost a pair of non-league matches to Orofino and Grangeville.
Vs. C.V.
Prairie beat C.V. 25-17, 25-17, 25-5 in the first match of a doubleheader Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Cottonwood.Sydney Bruner won this joust at the net against C.V.
Prairie started slowly as they didn’t take their first lead until leah Higgins scored a kill that made it 8-7.
The game stayed close as C.V. tied it for the last time at 17-17. They missed a serve to put Prairie ahead for good and Mykaela McWilliams took over at the service line. 
Chaye Uptmor stuffed a C.V. spike attempt to start the run. McWilliams then served 5 straight aces  before Angela Wemhoff scored the game-ending kill.
Prairie jumped out to leads of 4-1 and 8-3 in the second game but C.V. rallied to tie the score at 8-8.
C.V. then managed to take the lead at 12-14 and 13-15.
Prairie finally took the lead for good on an ace by Sydney Bruner. A kill by Wemhoff and another ace made it 18-15.
After 4 straight sideouts, Uptmor took over at the service line and served out the game. Wemhoff had a kill, Uptmor an ace, Madison Pecarovich a kill and Higgins 2 kills to end the game.
The third game was close until McWilliams took her turn at the service line. She took over at 5-3 after a bricked C.V. serve and served 6 straight points. She had 3 aces while Uptmor had 2 kills and Higgins had the other kill.
Prairie led 15-5 when Wemhoff took her turn at the line and that was it for C.V. as Wemhoff served the final 10 points of the match. 8 of the 10 points were aces with Higgins and Sam Remacle each adding a kill.
Higgins had 12 kills including a block in the match. Uptmor had 10 kills including a block plus 12 assists and 3 aces. Wemhoff had 5 kills and 8 aces. Bruner had 3 kills and 4 aces. Pecarovich had 2 kills, 18 assists and 4 aces. McWilliams had 2 kills and 11 aces. Remacle had 2 kills and 1 assist. Nicole Poxleitner had 1 kill.
The JV team won all three of their games against C.V. by scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 15-5.
The first game started with 2 missed serves by each side. Sabrina Lustig was the first to put a serve in play and scored an ace. She added 2 more service points with Jordyn Higgins and Alexis Hiler each scoring a kill for a 5-2 lead.
Prairie steadily built their lead as C.V. missed their first 5 serving attempts before finally getting one in play.
Prairie led 18-9 when Higgins scored a kill to put Theresa Wemhoff on the service line. C.V. never got the serve back as Wemhoff finished the game with 6 straight. Hiler and Higgins each had 2 kills while Kristyna Krogh and Madison Hinkelman each added a kill.
C.V. served an ace to start the second game but that was to be their only lead. They missed the next serve and Krogh then served 8 straight points, 6 of them aces. Hiler scored a pair of kills for the other 2 points as Prairie took a 9-1 lead.
Hiler later served 3 straight aces while Wemhoff had 4 out of 4 serves as Prairie built a 20-4 lead before coasting to a 14 point win.
Brooklyn Riener started off the third game with 6 straight aces before C.V. finally scored a sideout. 
Lustig added 3 aces while Higgins added 2 for the final 2 points of the match.
Vs. Orofino
In the second varsity match of the night, Prairie opened with a win but Orofino came back to win the match in 4 games, 25-19, 18-25, 20-25 and 20-25.

A double hit violation against Orofino put Wemhoff on the service line and that’s when the game turned around.
2 aces by Wemhoff and a kill by Uptmor tied the game at 17-17. 2 more aces plus a kill by Pecarovich put Prairie up 20-17.
Orofino got back within 1 at 20-19 before a kill by Uptmor put Higgins on the service line.
Consecutive stuff blocks by McWilliams and a kill by Bruner made it 24-19 and McWilliams then won a joust at the net for the game winner.
The second game saw no points on serve scored until Orofino scored to make it 4-6.
Prairie never led in the game as they did not score a point while serving until McWilliams served an ace that made it 9-13. A kill by Wemhoff, another ace and a kill by Higgins cut the deficit to 12-13 but Orofino got the sideout and that was as close as Prairie would get as Orofino pulled away for a 7-point win.
In the third game Prairie quickly fell behind 1-8 in another game that they never led.
They were able to get back within 2 at 8-10 on 2 aces by Uptmor and a free ball kill by Pecarovich and later on got within 1 at 18-19 on a kill by Higgins but otherwise Orofino held them off.
Prairie was able to lead in the fourth game, but only at 2-1 after an ace by Bruner. Orofino then scored the next 7 points to take control
Prairie never got any closer than 4 the rest of the way at 17-21 and again at 20-24.
In the match McWilliams had 14 kills, including 2 blocks, plus 1 assist and 2 aces. Higgins had 11 kills, 1 assist and 7 aces. Bruner had 8 kills, 2 assists and 3 aces. Higgins had 7 kills, including a block, plus 1 assist and 1 ace. Uptmor had 6 kills, 22 assists and 2 aces. Pecarovich had 3 kills 14 assists and 1 ace.
At Grangeville
In a non-league match at Grangeville Thursday, Sept. 15, Prairie lost to the Bulldogs for the first time in several years but it took 5 games for Grangeville to win, 27-25, 16-25, 25-17, 20-25, 12-15.
Prairie led big in the first game but let Grangeville rally back to force Prairie to tie at 24-24 and 25-25 before falling. The Bulldogs used that momentum to carry them into the next game.
Prairie is now 4-6 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Prairie won both the JV and C matches.

Lady Pirates at Border Battle
The Prairie Lady Pirates will be participating in the “Border Battle” at Pomeroy this Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Border Battle is a volleyball competition between southeastern Washington and central Idaho schools with 5 schools participating on each side.
Idaho will have Genesee, Kamiah, Orofino and Troy along with Prairie while Washington will have Asotin, Clarkston, Dayton and St. John-Endicott along with host Pomeroy.
Prairie’s first match will be at 9:50 a.m. against St. John-Endicott in the high school gym. Their next match will be at approximately 11:35 a.m. against Dayton in the elementary gym.
The rest of the day they are back in the high school gym with a match against Pomeroy at approximately 1:20. They play Asotin at approximately 3:40 and Clarkston at approximately 4:50.
All matches are best 2 out of 3 with third game to 15.
