Lady Pirates split league matches
The Prairie Lady Pirates are solidly entrenched in third place in the White Pine League Division 1 standings after splitting a pair of league matches this past week.
On Tuesday, Sept. 27, they won in 4 games at Lapwai and on Thursday, they lost in 3 games to league leading Troy, who has yet to lose a league match.
At Lapwai
The scores at Lapwai were 25-15, 24-26, 25-20 and 25-21.

Lapwai jumped out to a 0-4 lead in the opening game but 2 aces by Sydney Bruner and 2 more by Mykaela McWilliams gave prairie a 7-5 lead.
Lapwai took back the lead at 7-9 when Angela Wemhoff scored the sideout kill that sent Chaye Uptmor to the service line.
Uptmor served Prairie to a commanding 16-9 lead with 4 aces plus 3 kills by Wemhoff and a kill by Madison Pecarovich.
Lapwai got back within 18-13 before missing a serve and Leah Higgins put together he own service run to get Prairie to game point. She had 3 aces and McWilliams stuffed a Lapwai spike as Prairie took a 24-13 lead. Lapwai got a sideout and an ace before McWilliams scored the game-winning kill.
Lapwai again jumped out to an early lead in the second game but this time built it to 2-9 before Prairie started mounting a rally.
Prairie was able to get within 1 at 9-10 but Lapwai then scored the sideout at pushed the lead back to 6 at 10-16.
Prairie again bounced back and tied the game at 18 after a 4-point service run by Pecarovich in which Bruner had 3 kills and Uptmor scored the other kill.
Despite trailing most of the game it looked like Prairie might pull it out when the got to double game point at 24-22 after a 3-point run by Uptmor. She had an ace while McWilliams and Wemhoff each added a kill.
Lapwai was able to score the sideout on kill and proceeded to score the next 3 points as well to pull out the win that evened the match at a game apiece.
In the third game the biggest lead was the final score. For most of the game neither team led by more than 2 points.
The score was tied 10 times and there were 6 lead changes.
Prairie finally got a rally going after coach Cheyenne Hudson called a timeout with Prairie down 16-18. Wemhoff scored a sideout kill out of the timeout and McWilliams served 3 straight points. Uptmor and Wemhoff each scored a kill to put Prairie up 19-18 and McWilliams served an ace to make it 20-18.
Lapwai scored a sideout but Wemhoff sent a spike to the back line to give Uptmor the serve.
A kill each by Wemhoff and Higgins gave Prairie the biggest lead either team had to that time at 23-19.
A Lapwai kill was followed by a kill by Pecarovich to get to game point at 24-20. Wemhoff then served an ace to put Prairie up 2 games to 1.

They led by 3 at 5-8 when Higgins scored on a spike down the line to send Uptmor to the service line.
Prairie dominated at the net for the next 4 points as Pecarovich scored a kill then Higgins knocked down a bad Lapwai set to tie the game. Wemhoff then scored a pair of kills for a 10-8 lead.
Lapwai was able to come back and tie the game at 10 and after Prairie took a 16-12 lead, they tied it again at 17. The Wildcats were never able to take the lead though as a bricked serve game Prairie the lead for good at 18-17.
After a kill by Bruner and 2 sideouts, Prairie led 20-18 with Uptmor about to serve. She served up 3 straight aces for a 23-18 edge.
After a trade of sideouts Prairie was at match point at 24-19. Lapwai held off 2 match points before Bruner pounded a spike off of a Lapwai blocker for the match winner.
For the match Wemhoff had 14 kills and 2 aces. McWilliams had 12 kills which included 3 blocks plus 2 assists and 5 aces. Uptmor had 10 kills, including a block, plus 28 assists and 10 aces. She was the server for 25 points scored. Bruner had 10 kills and 3 aces. Pecarovich had 9 kills, 26 assists and 1 ace. Higgins had 6 kills and 5 aces. Sam Remacle had a pair of assists.
Prairie lost the JV match in straight sets as Lapwai had a couple of varsity players filling in as they were shorthanded. Scores were 13-25, 20-25 with just 2 games played due to Lapwai being short of players.
In the opening game Lapwai got a big serving run early and took a 3-8 lead. 
Prairie got back within 2 at 7-9 and again at 9-11. Lapwai then had another big serving run as they scored 8 straight for a 9-19 lead and the game was all but over.
Prairie took the early lead in the second game at 3-0 and 6-1 but Lapwai came back with 6 straight points to take the lead.
Prairie trailed 9-10 when Theresa Wemhoff tipped the ball over on second touch for a point. Anna Vinsova then went to the service line and served 8 straight points for an 18-10 lead. She had 5 aces while Emma Gehring and Sabrina Lustig each added a kill. A net foul accounted for the other point.
Lapwai finally got the sideout and quickly turned things around with their own service run as they came back to tie the game at 18-18.
A service dig by Kristyna Krogh broke the run and Prairie took back the lead but only briefly. Their final lead came at 20-19 after a tip by Lustig but a missed serve gave Lapwai the serve and they never gave it back.
Vs. Troy
The scores in the Troy match were 19-25, 14-25, 17-25.

Prairie led for much of the opening game as they took a 7-4 lead behind 3 aces from McWilliams and a stuff block by Uptmor on Troy’s Abby Blum.
Prairie was able to make it 13-7 with Wemhoff serving. Bruner had 2 kills and Pecarovich another while an ace by Wemhoff finished her run. 
After 3 straight sideouts, Troy put together the game-turning service run. Jump serving senior Emma Schetzle had 3 aces and Prairie struggled with Troy’s hitting on several other points as Troy scored 8 straight for a 14-16 lead.
After a Prairie timeout, McWilliams ended the run by stuffing a Troy spike but Prairie then saw Blum scored consecutive kills and Troy was able to build to a 6 point win.
In the second game Prairie led just twice at 1-0 and 2-1.
Troy took the lead for good at 3-4 and steadily pulled away for a big win.
Prairie put up more of a fight in the third set as a kill each by McWilliams and Uptmor plus an ace by Pecarovich gave them a 3-0 lead.
Troy answered back with service runs of 4, 3, 3 and 4 points to take a 10-20 lead.
A kill by Bruner and 2 aces by Pecarovich cut the lead to 7.
Troy then pushed it back to 10 before a kill and then an ace by Bruner cut the lead to 8.
A sideout put Troy at match point but Prairie was able to fight off 2 of them before succumbing. Wemhoff scored a kill and McWilliams an ace before Troy scored the match-winning point on a tip.
For the match Uptmor had 9 kills including a block plus 9 assists. McWilliams had 7 kills including 2 blocks plus 7 aces. Wemhoff and Bruner each had 5 kills and an ace. Higgins had 3 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Pecarovich had 2 kills, 15 assists and 3 aces.

Prairie won the JV match, sweeping all 3 games, 25-19, 25-18, 20-18.
Prairie led from start to finish in the opening game as 2 kills by Theresa Wemhoff gave Prairie a 2-0 lead.
After getting within 2-1, Prairie moved the lead to 4-1 on another kill by Wemhoff and an ace by Madison Hinkelman.
Troy never got any closer than 2 points the rest of the way.
Prairie took their biggest lead at 23-13 after 2 aces by Jordyn Higgins.
Troy got within 23-16 before a tip by Alexis Hiler put Prairie at game point. Troy fought off fame point 3 times before Wemhoff scored on a 2nd touch tip for the game winner.
The second game saw Troy take their first lead right off the bat on a missed serve and an ace.
Troy built their lead to 4-11 before Prairie rallied. 
Two kills by Anna Vinsova and an ace by Emma Gehring cut the lead to 7-11.
After a pair of sideouts, Kristyna Krogh scored a kill and Vinsova served 3 aces to tie the score at 12-12.
After a missed serve each, Krogh served 2 aces to give Prairie their first lead of the game.
Once they took the lead they never gave it back.
Vinsova had a 3-point run to push the lead to 21-16.
Troy got back within 3 at 21-18 but a kill by Higgins put Wemhoff on the service line and she served out the game. Sabrina Lustig scored a kill, Wemhoff served an ace and Krogh scored the game-winning kill.
Troy looked to salvage the third game as they took a 4-7 lead but a kill by Wemhoff and 2 aces by Higgins and a kill by Gehring gave Prairie an 8-7 lead.
From that point on the game was a battle back and forth. Prairie got to game point at 14-11 on a kill by Krogh but Troy came back with 4 straight points for their own chance at game points at 14-15. After a Prairie timeout, Troy bricked the serve.
A kill by Krogh gave Prairie another game-point chance at 16-15 but Troy scored the sideout and then served and ace for another game-point chance. Higgins score a kill to tie it and a dig by Krogh scored to make it 18-17. Again Troy got the side out but Wemhoff scored to make it 19-18 and then scored the game-winning kill.
