Lady Pirates win 2 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates clinched third place in the league standings with wins over Clearwater Valley and Potlatch Saturday, Oct. 8 at Kooskia. Earlier in the week they lost a non-league match at Orofino on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
At Orofino
They lost the match at Orofino in 4 games on Orofino’s Dig Pink night. Scores were 20-25, 25-21, 8-25 and 22-25.Madison Pecarovich sets the ball at Orofino as Sydney Bruner watches. It was the second Tuesday in a row that Prairie participated in another school’s Dig Pink fundraiser.
With this match Prairie coach Cheyenne called up JV players Kristyna Krogh and Jordyn Higgins to the varsity. This was partly due to Nicole Poxleitner and Darlene Gehring being unable to attend the game but they will also likely be called up for District anyway and this gives them a chance to get acclimated to playing with the varsity.
In the opening game Prairie fell behind 1-4 but came back once Mykaela McWilliams went to the service line. She took over with Prairie down 3-5 and served the Pirates to a 9-5 lead with 4 aces plus a kill each by Sydney Bruner and Angela Wemhoff.
Orofino came back with a 2-7 run to retake the lead.  Prairie was able to tie the game at 14-14 on a stuff by McWilliams, but couldn’t retake the lead.
The second game saw Prairie fall behind again at 5-11 but they were able to rally back.
Leah Higgins scored a kill that made it 15-16 and Uptmor went to the service line. She served 3 aces and Leah Higgins added a kill to make it 19-16.
Once in the lead Prairie was able to hold on for the win with Bruner serving up an ace to finish it off.
In the third game Prairie kept it close early trailing just 5-6. At that point things fell apart for Prairie. Orofin scored a sideout then served 4 straight points. After a pair of sideouts Orofino served 12 straight for a 6-24 lead. A kill by McWilliams ended the run and Krogh served an ace but Orofino then got the sideout they needed to end the game.Mykaela McWilliams makes a pass at Orofino.
In the fourth game Prairie fell behind 1-4 but came back to take an 8-6 lead as Uptmor served 2 aces and Leah Higgins and Sam Remacle each added a kill.
Orofino came back though and had a 7-point service run that put them up 10-18 before bricking a serve. 
Prairie was able to come back though with Krogh serving 3 straight points to cut the lead to 4. 
McWilliams later served 3 straight to get Prairie back within 1 at 20-21.
After a trade of sideouts Uptmor served an ace to tie the game at 22-22 but that was it for Prairie as Orofino scored the final 3 points.
For the match Leah Higgins had 14 kills, including a block, plus an assist. Uptmor had 8 kills including a block plus 13 assists and 5 aces. Wemhoff had 8 kills and an ace. McWilliams had 7 kills including a block plus 2 assists and 5 aces. Bruner had 5 kills and an ace. Madison Pecarovich had 2 kills, 15 assists and 1 ace. Krogh had 3 kills, 2 assists and an ace. Remacle had 2 kills and Josie Peery had 1 ace.
The JV team won all three of their games by scores of 25-14, 25-8 and 15-3.
In the opening game Prairie took a 3-0 lead on a kill by Alexis Hiler and 2 aces by Kristyna Krogh. 
Orofino cut the lead to 4-3 but a free ball kill by Hiler, an ace by Anna Vinsova and another kill by Hiler pushed the lead to 7-3.
Prairie steadily built on the lead throughout the game as they were able to sideout Orofino serves while picking up a point or two on their serves.
The second game saw Orofino tie the score at 2-2 but then miss the serve. Vinsova then served 9 straight points to put Prairie in command of the game. She had 5 aces with Hiler and Alexis Shears each adding a pair of kills for a 12-2 lead.
The continued to dominate the game as Prairie outscored Orofino 13-5 the rest of the way. Jordyn Higgins and Hiler each had 3 point service runs to help build the lead.
In the third game Madison Hinkelman opened the game with a kill and Theresa Wemhoff followed with 5 straight aces for a 6-0 lead.
Out of Orofino’s 3 points in the game, only 1 wasn’t given to them on a Prairie missed serve as Prairie totally dominated the game.
Hinkelman had a 4-point service run which included 3 aces and Vinsova had 2 aces.
The C team also won all three of their games, scores not available. 
At C.V.
For the two matches at Kooskia Hudson switched Chaye Uptmor and Angela Wemhoff back to where they were at the start of the season with Uptmor as an outside hitter and Wemhoff as a setter.
The matches at Kooskia were also varsity only. Prairie won the opener against C.V. in a sweep, 25-10, 25-20, 26-24.
In the opening game Prairie jumped out to a 7-3 lead as Bruner had a 4-point service run. She notched 2 aces with her jump serve and Uptmor and McWilliams each added a kill.Sam Remacle is about to spike the ball in the CV match.
C.V. got back within 1 at 8-7 but a kill by Uptmor, a block by Leah Higgins and 2 aces by Wemhoff put Prairie back up 12-7.
Finally at 16-10, Bruner scored a kill that sent Pecarovich to the service line where she served out the game. Uptmor and McWilliams each scored on a kill then Pecarovich ended it with 6 straight aces.
In the second game Krogh served Prairie to a 4-0 lead with 2 aces plus a kill and a block by McWilliams.
C.V. came back to make it a close game as they took an 8-11 lead before bricking a serve.
Uptmor then served Prairie back into the lead with 2 aces followed by a kill each from Wemhoff and Peery.
C.V. kept the game within 3 points and 3 times cut the lead to 1 but could never retake the lead.
A kill by Peery and an ace by Wemhoff put Prairie at game point at 24-19. C.V. got the sideout but then missed the serve to give Prairie a 5-point win.
In the third game Prairie took a 5-0 lead as Pecarovich had a pair of aces while McWilliams added 2 kills.
C.V. answered right back though to get within 5-4.
With Uptmor serving 4 straight aces Prairie surged to a 14-8 lead only to see C.V. scored 9 of the next 10 points to take a 15-17 lead.
2 aces by Pecarovich put Prairie back on top but C.V. tied it at 18-18.
A kill by Uptmor put Prairie back on top and an ace by Remacle and a kill by McWilliams made it 21-18.
After a kill by Peery, Prairie was at match point at 24-21. C.V. got the sideout though and scored the next 2 points to tie the game at 24-24.
Leah Higgins scored a kill to get Prairie at match point again and Peery knocked down a first touch spike to end the match.
For the match McWilliams had 13 kills including a block. Uptmor had 10 kills, 1 assists and 6 aces. Peery had 6 kills. Bruner had 4 kills and 3 aces. Wemhoff had 2 kills, 9 assists and 3 aces. Pecarovich had 1 kill, 9 assists and 10 aces. Krogh had 1 kill, 4 assists and 2 aces. Remacle had 1 kill and 1 ace. Leah Higgins had 1 block, 2 assists and 3 aces. Jordyn Higgins had 4 assists. Darlene Gehring had 2 aces.
Vs. Potlatch at C.V.
After sitting and watching Potlatch beat C.V., Prairie played the Loggers and won in 4 games 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17.
Prairie jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening game as Pecarovich served 2 points and McWilliams 4. Pecarovich had 1 ace while McWilliams had 2.

McWilliams served another 3 points in her second turn with Prairie dominating at the net, specifically Leah Higgins. Higgins blocked one spike and won a joust at the net with a Potlatch player for another kill. In between, Uptmor scored a kill as Prairie took a 23-12 lead.
A first touch spike kill by Higgins got it to game point and Wemhoff served up an ace for the win.
Potlatch made it tougher in the second game, even taking the lead early on.
The Loggers final lead came at 11-12 with Leah Higgins scoring a kill to tie it and a kill by Uptmor giving Prairie the lead for good. An ace by Higgins made it 14-12.
Potlatch kept it close and was still down by only 3 at 21-18 before Wemhoff scored a kill to send herself to the service line. She then served out the game with Bruner, Uptmor and Leah Higgins each scoring a kill.
In game 3 coach Hudson got her reserves and JV call-ups some playing time and Prairie jumped out to a 4-1 lead on 3 aces by Bruner.
Potlatch came back though and took leads of 7-10 and 8-14.
Leah Higgins served 4 straight to trim the lead to 13-14 with an ace, a kill by Remacle and 2 kills by Wemhoff who as setter, tipped the ball over on second touch twice in a row.
Krogh then served Prairie back into the lead as McWilliams scored a pair of kills and Krogh jump served 2 aces for an 18-16 edge.
Potlatch came back to take a 22-23 lead. Bruner tied it with a kill but Potlatch then got a pair of kills to pull out the win.
In the fourth game it was close until McWilliams took over at the service line at 6-4. 4 aces in a row, a kill by Uptmor, a block by Higgins and another ace later and Prairie was up 13-4.
Later in the game Higgins had a 5-point service run with 2 aces plus 2 kills by McWilliams and a block by either Pecarovich or McWilliams as Prairie took a 22-10 lead.
Potlatch rallied to cut the lead in half at 22-16 before a kill by McWilliams and an ace by Pecarovich made it match point at 24-16.
After a sideout, Leah Higgins scored the game-winning kill.
For the match McWilliams had 17 kills which includes 3 blocks plus 1 assist and 8 aces. Uptmor had 15 kills, 3 assists and 2 aces. Higgins had 10 kills, which included 4 blocks plus 2 assists and 5 aces. Wemhoff had 7 kills, 16 assists and 1 ace. Pecarovich had 3 kills, including a block, plus 20 assists and 6 aces. Peery had 2 kills. Remacle had 1 kill. Krogh had 7 assists and 2 aces.
Prairie is now 7-4 in league play with 1 league match left, and 12-10 overall.

Prairie opens District play at 1 p.m. Saturday
The District 2, Division 1 volleyball tournament starts this Saturday, Oct. 15 at the LCSC Activity Center.
Prairie is locked into the third seed and will play  #6 seed Kamiah at 1 p.m.
If they win they would likely play Genesee at 4 p.m. with a state berth on the line. If they lose they would play in a loser out match at 7 p.m.
The tournament continues on Monday, Oct. 17 with a pair of loser-out matches at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Monday’s survivors will play for third place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18. The winner of that match plays against Wallace on Thursday, Oct. 20 with the winner of that match playing the fourth place team from District 3 Saturday, Oct. 22 at Craigmont at 6 p.m. for a spot at State.
The championship game is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 with both teams advancing to state.
State this year is at Rigby High School on Oct. 28-29.
