Cottonwood City Council meets
The Cottonwood City Council held their regular October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11 due to the Columbus Day holiday on their regular meeting date.
In unfinished business an airport lease was voted to be reinstated due to the fact the insurance documents have been received and the lease and use payments are current.
Pat Holthaus reviewed a letter from the State Division of Environmental Quality about concerns with well #5 and its proximity to the airport which is used at times by aerial applicators. Holthaus said he would contact other airports for policies for containment of spills, insurance and standard practices.
Carla Sisson had requested to be hooked up to the new water line along East Street. This was revisited and the consensus of the Council was that they really couldn’t do anything until they receive the documents from the BLM turning ownership of the line over to the city. Once that is done they can look at Sisson’s request.
In new business City Clerk Carol Altman informed the Council the City had received correspondence from VEBA indicating the City is not in compliance with their account guidelines. After discussion the Council decided to set up a special meeting with VEBA, the Council, the city employees and an insurance representative. VEBA is the carrier for a medical spending account for employees.
In reports Holthaus said the water tests all came back good.
Ron Grant had no report from the sewer department.
Jack Duman reported the City had received all of the East Street project bills. The project ran a little over budget. He also reported prep work has started on the sidewalk and Broadway Street projects.
In the Land & Buildings report, Holthaus expressed his concerns with children playing on the railing and ramp during events.
Linda Nida had no report from the airport.
Grant reported the Fire Department had 1 call for ambulance assistance in the past month. No fire calls. Grant also reported he and fire chief Roy Uhlenkott are looking into FEMA grants.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be Monday, November 14 at 7 p.m.
