Girls team, Gehring qualify for State
The entire varsity girls team and Grant Gehring from the boys team qualified for state at the District Crosscountry meet held at Grangeville Thursday, Oct. 20.
it was a cold, very windy day making for rough conditions for the runners.
Ciara Chaffee in 4th, Kendra Duclos in 13th and Jacey Rambo in 14th would have qualified for the girls as individuals but with the team placing 2nd, the entire team gets to go.
Gehring placed 22nd in the boys race, just getting in as a state qualifier as the top third of the runners go and there were 65 runners in the boys race. Gehring’s time was 20:42.5.
Just missing out on qualifying was Gavin Branson, who placed 25th in 21:03.0. Luke Schwartz was 34th in 22:03.1. James Villamor was 41st in 23:05.7. Luis Flores was 52nd in 24:07.6. Ryan Glimp was 57th in 24:07.4 and Brandon Latimer was 59th in 25:40.3.
The boys team placed 5th with 147 points, 1 spot out of qualifying for state as the top 4 teams qualified.
In finishing 4th Chaffee had a time of 23:56.5. Duclos had a time of 26:00.2 and Rambo had a time of 26:02.2.
Calli Perrin was 17th in 26:31.2. Jessie Sonnen was 24th in 27:34.5. Hope McIntire was 25th in 28:13.0 and Kodie Tidwell was 33rd in 20:36.6.
Last year’s state medallist, Kylie Tidwell, was unable to compete due to an injury.
Madison Ulmer and Sierah Poxleitner ran in the JV race where Ulmer was 4th in 31:44.3 and Poxleitner was 5th in 32:36.5.
The state meet is set for this Saturday, Oct. 29 at Pocatello.
