players turned out for Lady Pirates basketball
The Prairie girls basketball team will be very young this year with just 2 seniors among the 21 players turned out. However there are 7 juniors turned out along with 7 sophomores and 5 freshmen. Kylie Tidwell and Chaye Uptmor, both returning starters, are the two seniors on the team and will be looked to for leadership on this year’s team. Another returning varsity starter is junior Angela Wemhoff. Two more juniors, Josie Peery and Leah Higgins, got a fair amount of playing time last year. Those 5 are the likely starters at this point. Also on the varsity are junior Sydney Bruner, sophomore Jordyn Higgins and freshman India Peery with sophomores Theresa Wemhoff and Kristyna Krogh as JV/varsity swing players. The rest of the JV includes juniors Sierah Poxleitner, Alexis Shears and Sarah Ross, sophomores Alexis Hiler, Kodie Tidwell, Hope McIntire and Kendra Duclos and freshmen Ciara Chaffee, Brooklyn Riener, Sydnee Bruegeman and Nakonia Nuttman. Although they have good experience returning with 3 starters off last year’s state runner-up team, what they lack is much in the way of height. Chaffee is about the only player on the entire roster taller than 5’8” and may wind up getting some varsity time because of that. Lapwai will again be the league favorite with Troy and Genesee looking to battle with Prairie for the state berths. Potlatch, C.V. and Kamiah at this point look to be a notch below. Prairie opens their regular season with a game against the Lewiston JV at Booth Hall next Tuesday, Nov. 15. Sonnen is WPL Div. 2 player of the year Ally Sonnen of Summit Academy has been named the player of the year for the White Pine League Division 2 volleyball team.
