Vs. Lapwai
The clash Friday at Cottonwood between the two schools that have met in the state championship game for the past 3 years and are ranked #1 and #2 this year was rather one-sided in the first half but Prairie showed they could play with the Wildcats in the second half in a 69-84 loss.
Sydney Bruner got inside for a rare open look against Lapwai. Also shown are Leah Higgins and India Peery.Lapwai jumped out to a 0-7 lead in the first quarter but a basket each by Angela Wemhoff and Leah Higgins cut the lead to 4-7. Unfortunately, Wemhoff, who is the engine that drives this year’s Prairie team, picked up her third foul soon after that and spent the final 12 minutes of the first half on the bench.
After she left the game Lapwai outscored Prairie 6-11 to take a 10-20 lead by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter without their main ballhandler Prairie turned the ball over 15 times and were able to attempt only 5 shots from the field, making 4.
