Lady Pirates improve to 17-1
The Prairie Lady Pirates picked up another 3 wins this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 17 they beat Kamiah 59-23 at Cottonwood. On Friday, Jan. 20 they won at Troy 63-43. Finally on Monday, Jan. 23 they won 63-30 at Asotin.

Prairie jumped out to an 18-0 lead as they held Kamiah to just 4 shot attempts while forcing 10 turnovers in the opening quarter.Kylie Tidwell scores on a lay-up against Kamiah.
Prairie didn’t exactly light it up from the field, making just 5 of 16 attempts, but took advantage of Kamiah fouls to sink 8 of 14 free throw attempts in the quarter.
Kamiah finally got on the board in the final minute with a pair of free throws.
Kamiah found some offense in the second quarter as they outscored Prairie 4-6 over the first 4:30 of the quarter.
Prairie then put together a 7-0 run to push the lead to 21 as Chaye Uptmor, Angela Wemhoff and Leah Higgins each scored a basket and Josie Peery scored a free throw.
Kamiah added a free throw to make it 29-9 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter Kylie Tidwell scored 7 points, including a 3-pointer, and Uptmor added 4 as Prairie built their lead to 44-19 by the end of the period.
Any hopes Kamiah had of cutting in to the lead were dashed by a 12-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Uptmor scored 6 of those 12 points as Prairie built a 56-19 lead and invoked the running clock mercy rule.
Uptmor wound up with 15 points to lead the scoring with Tidwell adding 11. Angela Wemhoff scored 8 with Leah Higgins and India Peery scoring 6 each. Theresa Wemhoff and Sydney Bruner scored 4 each with Josie Peery scoring 3 and Jordyn Higgins 2.
Chynna Wilcox, granddaughter of Dick and Dorothy Nuxoll, led Kamiah with 9 points.
Kamiah edged Prairie on the boards 23-24. Leah Higgins had 5 to lead Prairie.
Angela Wemhoff had 5 steals and 3 assists to lead the team in both categories.
Prairie was 22 for 49 from the field, 45%, and 14 for 24 at the line, 58%. Kamiah was 7 for 21 from the field, 33%, and 9 for 13 at the line, 69%.
In the JV game Kamiah scored first with a free throw but that was to be their only lead as Prairie scored the next 22 points and went on to win 43-12.
After Kamiah took their 0-1 lead, Alexis Hiler tied it with a free throw and then put Prairie ahead with a putback. Kodie Tidwell scored the next 5 points and Ciara Chaffee, Kristyna Krogh and Tidwell scored a basket each to make it 14-1 at the quarter break.
It was more of the same in the second quarter with 8 more points scored to make it 22-1 before Kamiah scored again with a free throw. It was 29-4 before Kamiah finally scored their first field goal. Prairie led 29-8 at the half.
Hope McIntire scored 4 in the quarter with the other 11 points spread out over 6 different players.
The scoring pace slowed in the third as Hiler and Tidwell scored 4 each and Kendra Duclos added 2 as Prairie outscored Kamiah 10-2, holding the Kubs to just 2 shot attempts.
In the fourth quarter Nakonia Nuttman scored all 4 of Prairie’s points which was played under a running clock after Nuttman’s basket with 6:55 to play made it 41-10. Kamiah countered with just 2 points in the quarter.
Tidwell wound up as the leading scorer with 13 points with Hiler scoring 8. Krogh added 5 while McIntire, Chaffee and Nuttman scored 4 each. Duclos and Brooklyn Riener scored 2 each and Alexis Shears scored 1.
Prairie had a 33-27 edge on the boards with Chaffee pulling down 5 to lead the team. Sarah Ross and Shears added 4 each.
Tidwell and Hiler each had 7 steals while Krogh had 4 assists.
Prairie was 18 for 50 from the field, 36%, and 7 for 26 at the line, 27%. Kamiah was 4 for 19 from the field, 21%, and 4 for 10 at the line, 40%.

At Troy
With their win at Troy, Prairie pretty much clinched the #2 seed into District. Although they probably had it anyway as they have the tiebreaker over Troy. Even if they Angela Wemhoff scores at Troy.beat Lapwai on Saturday, Prairie would still be second as Lapwai has the tiebreaker in their favor.
Troy took an early 2-5 lead after a 3-pointer but Prairie answered back with 2 free throws by Angela Wemhoff, a basket inside by Bruner and a basket by Tidwell for an 8-5 lead. Prairie never trailed the rest of the way.
Troy got back within 1 a couple of times in the first quarter at 8-7 and 10-9 but Prairie closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 20-11 lead at the quarter break. Wemhoff scored 3 points at the line, including 2 when she was fouled at the buzzer. India Peery added a 3-pointer and Tidwell and Bruner each added a basket.
A basket by Uptmor and a free throw by Josie Peery made it 23-11 in the second quarter.
Priarie held Troy scoreless until the 4:25 mark of the second quarter, a nearly 6 minute span of holding Troy without a point.
Troy got back within 7 at 23-16 after 2 free throws and a 3-pointer but a basket each by Josie Peery, India Peery and Angela Wemhoff pushed the lead to 13 at 29-16. It was 29-18 at the half.
Tidwell scored on a steal to open the third quarter but Troy then scored the next 6 points to get back within 7 at 31-24.
Prairie answered with their own 8-09 run to push the lead back to 15. Bruner opened the run with a basket inside. Leah Higgins added a pair of baskets and Tidwell a pair of free throws to make it 39-24.
Troy was able to sink a couple of 3-pointers but couldn’t get any closer than 10 points the rest of the quarter. Tidwell scored with just under a minute left to make it 46-34 going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter Wemhoff caught fire, hitting 5 of 5 from the field and India Peery added a 3-pointer and a basket as Prairie built the lead to as many as 21 points on 3 different occasions before settling for a 20 point win.
Wemhoff wound up as the leading scorer with 19 points with Tidwell scoring 12, India Peery 10, Leah Higgins 9, Bruner 6, Josie Peery 5 and Uptmor 2.
Prairie had a 29-28 rebounding edge led by Uptmor with 6 rebounds. Tidwell and Wemhoff each added 5 boards.
India Peery had 5 steals and 5 assists while Wemhoff had 8 assists.
Prairie was 26 for 52 from the field, 50%, and 10 for 19 at the line, 53%. Troy was 16 for 41 from the field, 39%, and 7 for 9 at the line, 78%.
Due to injuries and illness Troy was only able to play a 2-quarter JV game. Prairie won easily by a 33-18 score.
Krogh and Tidwell shouldered the scoring load in the game in the game with 17 and 12 points respectively. Krogh was 7 for 8 from the field and 3 for 4 at the line in the game while Tidwell was 6 for 8 from the field.
Those two scored 8 points each in the first quarter as Prairie raced to an 18-2 lead. Chaffee had the other 2 points.
Krogh had 9 and Tidwell 4 in the second quarter with Shears adding the other 2 points.
Prairie had a 14-12 rebounding edge led by Ross with 4 and Chaffee with 3.
Chaffee had 5 steals and Tidwell 4 while Krogh had 2 assists.
Prairie was 15 for 27 from the field, 56%, and 3 of 11 at the line, 27%. Troy was 8 for 17 from the field, 47%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%.

At Asotin
Asotin scored the first 4 points in the game but Prairie answered by outscoring the Panthers 18-3 the rest of the first quarter. India Peery hits one of her four 3-pointers at Asotin.
Chaye Uptmor scored to put Prairie on the board and then Angela Wemhoff and Uptmor each connected on a 3-pointer to give Prairie the lead.
After Asotin hit a 3 to cut the lead to 1, Prairie finished out the quarter with 10 straight points. Bruner scored inside, Tidwell hit a pair of free throws and then Wemhoff twice converted 3-point plays as she wound up with 9 points in the quarter.
The second quarter saw India Peery come off the bench and get hot as she connected on 4 of 5 shots in the quarter, 2 for 3 from long distance. Leah and Jordyn Higgins each added 5 points in the quarter as Prairie took a 43-18 lead at the half.
The scoring pace slowed in the third as Prairie outscored Asotin 11-8 as Bruner scored 4 and India Peery 3.
The scoring pace slowed even further in the fourth as Prairie outscored the Panthers 9-4 to close out the game. India Peery connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the game in 7 attempts and Josie Peery added 4 points inside.
India Peery wound up as the leading scorer with 16 points with Wemhoff and Bruner each adding 10 points. Josie Peery scored 7, Uptmor, Leah Higgins and Jordyn Higgins 5 each, Tidwell 4 and Theresa Wemhoff 1.
Prairie had a 40-25 advantage on the boards as Leah Higgins pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates. Josie Peery added 8 rebounds.
Angela Wemhoff had 8 steals, 5 in the second quarter alone, and 7 assists. Jordyn Higgins added 4 assists.
Prairie was 20 for 49 from the field, 41%, and 16 for 26 at the line, 62%. Asotin was 11 for 38 from the field, 29%, and 4 for 10 from the line, 40%.
Prairie improves to 17-1 overall and 9-1 in league play.
Prairie also won the JV game by a score of 56-10.
