Summit girls pick up first win
The Summit Lady Patriots picked up their first win of the season as they split a pair of league games this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 17 they beat Timberline 34-24 at Cottonwood for their first win. On Saturday, Jan. 21 they lost a makeup game against Deary at Cottonwood by a score of 41-27.
They were also to play at Timberline Thursday, Jan. 19, in a makeup of a game postponed by bad weather earlier but the game again was postponed with no makeup date set as yet. If they make it up it would have to be before Monday as that’s when the District Tournament starts.
Vs. Timberline
The Summit Lady Patriots picked up their first win of the season as they came away the winner in a battle of winless teams at Cottonwood Tuesday, Jan. 17.
After one quarter the score was tied at 7-7.
In the second quarter the Patriot defense clamped down on Timberline as they took a 10-7 halftime lead despite scoring just 3 points in the quarter.
Summit outscored the Spartans 6-3 in the third quarter to take a 16-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter the scoring picked up on both sides, mainly due to each team capitalizing at the free throw line. 14 of Summit’s 18 fourth quarter points came at the line.
Taylor Lustig was the biggest beneficiary going 7 for 12 at the line in the quarter as she wound up leading the Patriots in scoring with 9 points. Lexi Currier scored 8 points while Bridget Beckman scored 6. Lauren Stubbers scored 5, Ally Sonnen 4 and Erin Chmelik 2.
There were 49 fouls called in the game with 5 players fouling out, 3 for Timberline and 2 for Summit.
Jessie Sonnen didn’t score in the game but was key to Summit’s defensive effort.

Vs. Deary
The rematch against Deary was a little more lopsided than the earlier match which Deary won by only 4 points.
Summit got off to a rough start as Deary rolled to a 15-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. It was 22-12 at the half and 36-15 after 3 quarters.
Summit outscored Deary in the fourth quarter 12-5 to make the final score a little closer.
Ally Sonnen led the Patriots in scoring with 10 points with Beckman and Lustig scoring 6 each. Currier and Stubbers scored 2 each and Chmelik scored 1.
With the losses, Summit drops to 1-8 on both the season and in league play.
