Summit girls still alive at District
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots won 2 of 4 games this past week including a District play-in game
On Tuesday, Jan. 24 they hosted Nezperce and lost 32-44. On Wednesday, Jan. 25 they played their makeup game at Timberline and won 44-17 to clinch the hosting of their play-in game against the Spartans. On Saturday, Jan. 28, they closed out their regular season with a home loss to Logos, 34-39. Finally on Monday, Jan. 30 they beat Timberline again, 52-19, in a District Tournament play-in game at Cottonwood.
With Monday’s win Summit advances to another loser-out game at #3 seed Kendrick on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.
Vs. Nezperce
In the game against Nezperce Summit fell behind 8-17 after one quarter and 11-29 at the half.
They were able to outscore Nezperce in the second half but not by nearly enough to dig out of their first half deficit.
Lauren Stubbers was Summit’s leading scorer with 10 points with Lexi Currier scoring 8, Ally Sonnen 7, Taylor Lustig 4 and Bridget Beckman 3.

At Timberline
The third time was the charm in the rescheduling of the league game at Timberline.
By winning the game, Summit clinched the #6 seed into the District Tournament which enabled them to host the play-in game against Timberline Monday evening.
Summit jumped out to an 11-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and expanded that lead to 23-6 by halftime. Summit outscored the Spartans 13-6 in the third quarter to take a 36-12 lead into the fourth quarter.
All 7 players scored for the Patriots led by Stubbers who again had 10 points. Currier and Chemlik each scored 8, Ally Sonnen had 7, Lustig and Jessie Sonnen scored 4 each and Beckman scored 3.
Currier had the game’s only 3-point field goal.

Vs. Logos
The game against Logos also served as Senior Night as it was the Patriots final regular season home game. Seniors Ally Sonnen and Bridget Beckman were honored before the game.
Logos, the second seeded team into District, got off to a good start against Summit as the Patriots fell behind 6-13 by the end of the first quarter. Each team scored 6 in the second quarter as Logos led 12-19 at the half.
Summit mounted a comeback in the third quarter as they outscored the Knights 14-8 to cut the deficit to just 1 point at 26-27. Ally Sonnen scored 8 of Summit’s 14 points in the quarter to lead the comeback.
Logos bounced back in the fourth quarter to outscore Summit 8-12 and get the win.
Ally Sonnen wound up as the Patriots’ leading scorer with 11 points with Stubbers adding 10 for the third straight game. Jessie Sonnen scored 6 with Lustig scoring 4, Currier 2 and Beckman 1.
Summit finishes the regular season with a record of 2-10 both in league and overall.

Play-in vs Timberline
Each time Summit played Timberline the margin of victory got bigger. Although if you came in during the first quarter you would’ve said no way Summit is scoring 52 points in this game.Lexi Currier drives past a Timberline defender in the play-in game Monday. Also shown is Jessie Sonnen.
Neither team scored in the first 4 minutes of the game with Timberline getting on the board first with a basket at the 3:50 mark.
That seemed to break the ice though as Summit followed with a pair of free throws by Stubbers just 20 seconds later.
Ally Sonnen added 3 of 4 at the line later in the quarter as Summit led 5-2 at the quarter break.
Timberline cut the lead to 1 but Summit then scored 8 straight points. After another free throw by Ally Sonnen, Summit finally scored their first basket when Currier sank a 3-pointer. A putback by Ally Sonnen and a 2-pointer by Currier and Summit had a 13-4 lead.
Timberline cut the lead to 14-8 then Summit finished the half with a 9-0 run capped by a buzzer beating 3 by Currier from about 22 feet out.
Summit continued to roll in the third quarter as Currier, Ally Sonnen and Beckman each scored 4 points and Lustig and Jessie Sonnen added 2 each as Summit outscored the Spartans 16-4 to take a 39-12 lead into the fourth quarter.
Timberline’s last gasp was a 1-5 start to the fourth quarter to get back within 23 at 40-17 but Summit then scored 10 straight to invoke the running clock mercy rule.
Ally Sonnen wound up with 18 points to lead the Patriots and added 12 rebounds to lead Summit to a 49-23 domination on the boards.
Currier scored 13 with Stubbers adding 6, Chmelik 5, Lustig and Beckman 4 each and Jessie Sonnen 2.
Jessie Sonnen added 8 rebounds with Stubbers and Beckman adding 7 each.
Ally Sonnen had 7 steals and Jessie Sonnen had 3 assists.
Summit was 18 for 56 from the field, 32%, and 14 for 26 at the line, 54%. Timberline was 9 for 31 from the field, 29%, and 1 for 4 at the line.
Summit’s record is now 3-10 on the season.
