Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle:

To the Editor
Our students have been very busy the last few weeks in their extracurricular activities. Congratulations to Jace  Perrin in Wrestling, first in district, the three person Knowledge Bowl team of Anthony, Garrett, and Luis at Spokane placing 11th out of 21 teams, and the girls Basketball team bringing home the academic award and second place trophy! It takes a great deal of courage and determination to get out in front of people and compete in any activity. We are proud of you. Keep up the good work!

Redneck Review
No. 97 - 2/27/2017
A look to the far distant past suggests that there are two opposing forces gaining steam in our world today which are destined to collide with earth shaking consequences!
On the one hand, the human race seems to be moving gradually away from a conviction found long ago in all civilizations that a supreme being (or things of some kind) was in charge, and that the human race had to recognize that reality and respond in some obedient way. Ancient civilizations offered sacrifices to appease the god or gods that they were convinced were responsible for their existence and their destiny.
The almost unlimited belief systems in those early gods was abruptly influenced some2000 years ago, when the historical God-man Jesus appeared and made a strong case that there was only one true God who was responsible for all creation and was the only source of an unchangeable truth that governed that creation and the people involved. The reality of life, the existence of the stars, the seasons of the year, the rules of conduct summarized by the biblical Ten Commandments were all agreed to be gifts of this one supreme being, and were thus usually recognized by mankind accordingly.
Logically, this belief system became known as Christianity and for several centuries was the dominant belief in Europe and eventually in the new world named North and South America. But the seeds of division and separation begin to emerge. The differences of opinion that led to the Protestant Revolt or Reformation of the 16th century were fueled in the 18th by the enlightenment and the Age of Reason, and a growing conviction that itwas man and not God who was responsible for his surroundings and his way of life. The Industrial Revolution which followed furthered convinced mankind that the future was his and his alone to shape and to cultivate and that truth itself could be known by individuals using their power of reason.
What happened should be no surprise! Christianity itself was obviously impacted. Today there are thousands of different versions of the church which Jesus started, the result of an individual deciding to tweak the original message just a bit to better fit his or her notion of what was really best. And any student of the New Age movement will tell you that this trend has continued to its logical end, that each person actually is his own church, and thus has the power to decide for oneself what is right or wrong, good or bad. So we have moved over the centuries from recognizing one creating and law giving God to a belief that each of us has this power and the ability to serve as our own individual god. In brief, we have moved from the one to the many, now each of us is able to define truth and right or wrong.
But wait! There is another force that has been steadily making itself more well known over the centuries. From the beginning during cave man days, we have moved historically more and more from total dependence on our selves to forming associations which group people together for the common welfare. From family clans to tribal units, to medieval kingdoms, to modern states, now to united states and united nations, and finally to a ONE WORLD unit which many are strongly advising today, we see just the opposite phenomenon occurring, a movement from the many to the one! And that ONE if it ever materializes, will necessarily be required to make rules and define how we live! Crazy! Can this work? Is it happening?
One need only read the news today, and note the bitter controversies to see the clash daily between the independence of the individual and the force of powerful government!
