Jace Perrin is District Champion
Prairie’s Jace Perrin earned a third place medal at the State Wrestling Meet held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25 at the Idaho Center in Nampa.
Perrin, wrestling at 182 lbs., opened with a quick takedown and a pin after just 50 seconds against Tristen Grush of Raft River on Friday morning.
Later on Friday he faced Lincoln Skinner of Grace. Skinner scored the first takedown but Perrin scored an escape and trailed 1-2 at the end of the first period. Skinner started the second period in the down position and scored an escape and another takedown for a 1-5 lead but Perrin scored a reversal to make it 3-5 and then scored the pin just 8 seconds before the end of the second period at the 3:52 mark of the match. That win guaranteed that Perrin would win a medal.
In the championship semifinals he faced #1 seeded Tyler Mathews of Declo. Mathews scored first with a takedown and led 0-2 at the end of the first period. Perrin started the second period in the down position and scored and escape but Mathews scored another takedown for a 1-4 lead. Perrin escaped again and trailed 2-4 after 2 periods. Mathews was in the down position for the third period and scored an escape then a takedown and near fall for a 2-10 lead. Perrin scored an escape to make it 3-10 and that’s how the match ended with Perrin losing by decision.
In the consolation semifinals Perrin faced Brayden Dunn of Melba. Neither wrestler could gain an advantage in the first period and it ended with the score 0-0. Perrin deferred the choice in the second period and Dunn chose neutral. Perrin scored a takedown and then pinned Dunn at the 2:06 mark to advance to the third place match.
In the third place match Perrin faced Jakob Plummer of Challis. Perrin scored a takedown and 2-point near fall for a 4-0 lead and that’s where it stood at the end of the first period. Plummer deferred to start the second period and Perrin chose the down position. Perrin scored a reversal for a 6-0 lead. Plummer scored a reversal to make it 6-2. That was the score at the end of the second period. Plummer chose the down position to start the third period and Perrin was able to get him rolled to his back for a near fall and a 9-2 lead but couldn’t quite get the pin. Perrin was able to ride out the rest of the match and win 9-2 for third place.
Perrin finishes his season with a record 34 wins and 7 losses.
