Vs. Culdesac
The Culdesac game at Cottonwood did not start great as Culdesac’s leadoff hitter tripled and then scored on a wild pitch for a 0-1 lead.Jade Peery makes a catch at second base in the Culdesac game.
It got a lot better once Prairie got to hit though as the Pirates sent 15 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the first scoring 11 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks.
Kylie Tidwell matched Culdesac’s leadoff batter by leading off with a triple and then scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game. Faith Uhlenkott and Sarah Ross both walked. Sam Remacle doubled home Uhlenkott and Ross then scored on a wild pitch. After an out Josie Peery walked and stole second. Sierah Poxleitner singled home Remacle. Alexis Hiler singled in Peery and Poxleitner. Kodie Tidwell then singled to score Hiler and stole second. She then advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a second out was made Remacle reached on an infield single to score Kodie Tidwell and a throwing error allowed both Kylie Tidwell and Uhlenkott to score with Remacle winding up at third. Noelle Uhlenkott went in as a courtesy runner for Remacle and scored on Sydney Bruner’s single to left to make it 11-1.
Culdesac’s leadoff hitter in the second reached on an error and a single and walk loaded the bases. The run scored on a forceout at second and that was all Culdesac would score in the game. Uhlenkott gave up 3 more singles and a walk but was able to get out of both the third and fourth innings without anyone scoring.
Prairie was limited to a single by Kodie Tidwell in the second but came up with another run in the third when Ross singled and scored on Remacle’s double.
Culdesac changed pitchers in the fourth and the new pitcher walked the first 3 batters on just 12 pitches. A caught stealing led to an out but there were still 2 runners on when Kodie Tidwell doubled to right to score Leah Higgins, who hit for Poxleitner. Kylie Tidwell was hit by a pitch to score Hiler and a wild pitch scored Kodie Tidwell with Kylie moving to second. Uhlenkott and Ross walked to load the bases. Game 1 vs Potlatch
The doubleheader against Potlatch was originally scheduled to be played at Cottonwood but was moved to Lewiston’s Airport Park due to wet field conditions.
Kylie Tidwell slides home with the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the first Potlatch game. The opening game was a back and forth high scoring affair that Prairie eventually won thanks in large part to being the home team as it was one of those games where the last team to hit was going to win.
In the opening inning Potlatch got a walk and a double to score a run. Prairie then got 2 outs but an error kept the inning going and Potlatch wound up scoring 4 runs.
Priarie was able to answer back though as Kylie Tidwell led off with a single, Uhlenkott walked and Ross triple to right to score both runners. Ross then scored on Bruner’s sacrifice fly to center to cut the Potlatch lead to 3-4.
Uhlenkott got the side out in order in the second inning and Prairie took their first lead in the bottom of the inning.
Peery was hit by a pitch leading off and Poxleitner followed with a single. Potlatch then had trouble catching throws as Peery scored and Poxleitner made it all the way to third. Poxleitner then scored when an illegal pitch was called to make it 5-4 in Prairie’s favor.
Neither team scored in the third inning and Uhlenkott made it 3 straight shutout innings pitched with a 1-2-3 fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth Peery got a 1-out single to right. Poxleitner then hit an infield grounder but the second baseman dropped the throw leaving Prairie with runners on first and second and still only 1 out. Kodie Tidwell then pounded the ball to deep left center for a run-scoring double. Kylie Tidwell followed with an infield grounder on which Potlatch again was unable gain an out as Poxleitner scored. A walk to Uhlenkott loaded the bases then Ross reached on an error by the pitcher with Kodie Tidwell scoring. A wild pitch moved up all 3 runners as Kylie Tidwell scored. After the second out was made, Bruner grounded to the third baseman who made a throwing error which allowed Uhlenkott and Ross both to score and made it 11-4.
A 7-run lead looks pretty safe but Prairie had their own problems on defense in the top of the fifth.
4 hits, including a double and a homer, 3 walks and 2 errors later, Potlatch had cut Prairie’s lead to 11-9 with a 5-run inning.
Prairie went out in order in the bottom of the inning. Neither side scored in the 6th but in the 7th Potlatch again took advantage of a couple of Prairie errors along with 3 hits, a walk and a hit batter to take their first lead since the early innings with 5 more runs for an 11-14 lead.
Bruner led off the bottom of the sevent by working a walk. She went to second on a wild pitch and stole third. She then scored when Higgins reached on an error. Peery forced Higgins at second for the first out of the inning. Poxleitner was hit by a pitch. A great catch by Potlatch’s left fielder robbed Kodie Tidwell of a 2-run double but Kylie Tidwell followed with a 2-run double to the gap in right center to tie the game at 14-14. Kylie wound up advancing to third when the throw went to home plate. The first pitch to Faith Uhlenkott was in the dirt and got past the catcher allowing Kylie Tidwell scored the game-winning run.

Potlatch scored in the bottom of the first on 2 singles and an error. Prairie had a great play on the same play as the error. With a runner on second, Potlatch singled to left. India Peery fielded the ball, threw to shortstop Kylie Tidwell who threw to Sam Remacle at the plate to nail the runner trying to score. A single and an error put 2 more runners on and a hit batter loaded the bases with 2 outs. A 2-run single made it 15-5 before Uhlenkott got out of the inning with a groundout to second.
Prairie went down in order in the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth Potlatch needed a run to keep the game from ending on the 10-run rule. The first two hitters flew out to the outfield. The third batter doubled to right. The game then ended on a grounder to short with Kylie Tidwell throwing out the batter at first.
