Lady Pirates clinch league title
The Prairie Lady Pirates improved to 15-0 on the season with 6 more wins this past week and clinched the White Pine League regular season championship for the first time in several years.
On Tuesday, May 2 they swept Lapwai 24-2 and 17-1 at Cottonwood. On Friday they traveled to Waitsburg, Washington and won their only two non-league games of the season 17-3 and 24-4. Finally on Monday, May 8 they hosted Kendrick in a league doubleheader and won both games 18-11 and 20-10.
With the #1 seed into district they will play last place Kamiah on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Cottonwood. With a win there they would then play the lowest remaining seed at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 at Orofino.
Vs. Lapwai
The Lady Pirates had little trouble rolling over Lapwai in a doubleheader played at Cottonwood Tuesday, May 2.
Prairie settled the first game in the opening inning as they rang up 14 runs as the visitors in the opening game in a makeup of a game postponed from March. They added 8 in the second and 2 in the third while holding Lapwai to 2 runs on 3 hits.
Faith Uhlenkott pitched the opening game.
Prairie pounded out 12 hits led by Sam Remacle with 3 singles. Faith Uhlenkott had a pair of singles. Josie Peery had a triple and Kylie Tidwell, Sarah Ross, Leah Higgins, Sydney Bruegeman, Sierah Poxleitner and Kodie Tidwell each had a single. Each starter had at least 1 hit.
In the second game Higgins pitched and allowed just 1 run on 3 hits.
Prairie scored 8 in the first and 9 more in the second as they again won in just 3 innings on the 15 run mercy rule.
Prairie had 10 more hits with Kylie Tidwell having a single and a homer. Remacle had a double and a triple. Kodie Tidwell had a double and a single. Bruner had 2 singles. Ross had an over the fence homer. Uhlenkott, Peery and Alexis Hiler each had a single.

At Waitsburg
The weather didn’t look promising for the doubleheader at Waitsburg, Washington, but the weather cleared up about half an hour before game time and held up until the games were finished.Kylie Tidwell is about to make a catch at shortstop against Kendrick.
In the first inning of the opening game Prairie scored 4 runs without benefit of a hit as 3 walks, 3 hit batters and an error accounted for the baserunners.
Ross got Prairie’s first hit with 1 out in the second. An error on Remacle’s grounder to third put 2 runners on and a wild pitch scored Ross. Bruner drew a walk. Peery was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Poxleitner walked to force home Remacle. Kodie Tidwell singled to right to score Bruner and Peery and Kylie Tidwell singled up the middle to score Poxleitner and Kodie to make it 10-0.
Prairie added a run in the third when Remacle’s fly ball to right was dropped for an error and Bruner singled to right to score Remacle.
Prairie made it 13-0 in the fourth as the Tidwell sisters each singled to lead off the inning. Kylie’s single scored Kodie who had gone to third on a wild pitch. Ross singled up the middle and Kylie scored on Remacle’s grounder to short.
Waitsburg got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth as they put together 3 hits and an error by Prairie helped them score 3 runs to cut the lead to 13-3.
Prairie added 4 runs in the fifth as coach Jeff Martin subbed in his bench players. Peery opened the inning with a walk and Hiler then tripled to left to score Peery. Hiler scored on a wild pitch. Kodie Tidwell singled to left and scored when her sister Kylie’s ground ball to third was misplayed. Koleen Hasselstrom hit for Uhlenkott and when she swung at strike 3 in the dirt, Kylie was able to score from third as the catcher threw out Hasselstrom at first.
Prairie had 10 hits in the game. Kodie Tidwell had 3 singles and 2 RBI, Kylie Tidwell had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Ross had a pair of singles. Hiler had an RBI triple. Bruner had a single and 2 RBI and Uhlenkott had a single.
Uhlenkott gave up 3 runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
In the second game Prairie rang up 12 runs in the first inning on just 6 hits. 7 walks and a hit batsman aided the cause. All the runs scored after there were 2 outs.
After a double play Ross was hit by a pitch and Remacle walked. Bruner singled home Ross and Remacle then scored on a double steal where the catcher threw the ball wide of the shortstop. Higgins and Peery walked to load the bases. Hiler then singled to left and the leftfielder aided the cause with an error that led to all 3 baserunners scoring. Kodie Tidwell walked and Kylie Tidwell singled home Hiler. Uhlenkott singled home Kodie Tidwell. Ross walked and Remacle walked to force home Kylie Tidwell. Bruner singled home Uhlenkott and Ross and Higgins tripled home Remacle and Bruner.
Higgins pitched the second game for Prairie and gave up a leadoff triple and a single for a first inning run. Prairie got an out on a rare rightfielder to shortstop forceout at second. Kodie Tidwell then ended the inning by catching a flyball in right and then doubling off the runner at first.
Prairie put a 5-spot on the board in the second inning, again after there were 2 outs. Kodie Tidwell had a 1 out single. After a second out was made Uhlenkott walked. Ross then doubled home both runners. Remacle then reached on a strikeout and passed ball. Bruner singled home Ross and Noelle Uhlenkott, courtesy running for catcher Remacle, scored on an error. Higgins then picked up her second triple of the game, this one to right field, to score Bruner.
Higgins gave up a pair of runs in the second on 3 straight singles but Prairie still led 17-3.
Prairie added another 5 runs in the third inning with Martin again starting to get his subs in at the plate.
Walks to Hiler and Kodie Tidwell opened the inning and Kylie Tidwell singled to load the bases. Faith Uhlenkott singled home Hiler. Ross walked to force in Kodie and Cheyenne Mauer walked to force in Kylie. Uhlenkott was forced out at the plate on a grounder to short by Bruner. Sydnee Bruegeman was hit by a pitch to force home Ross. Mauer was put out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch. Peery was hit by a pitch to reload the bases and Poxleitner was hit by a pitch to score Bruner and make it 22-3.
Two errors and a single allowed Waitsburg to score a run in the bottom of the third, making it 22-4.
Neither team scored in the fourth. In the top of the fifth Remacle led off with a double and with threatening skies, Prairie looked to get the game in. Remacle was called out for leaving base early. Bruner was hit by a pitch and wound up stealing second when she should have also been called out for leaving early. After a second out on a grounder to first, Peery scored the final 2 runs of the game when she homered over the head of the centerfielder scoring both Bruner and herself. A flyball to right ended the inning.
Higgins gave up a 1 out walk in the bottom of the fifth but got out of the inning with 2 ground balls and a strikeout.
Prairie had 14 hits in the game.Bruner had 3 singles and 4 RBI. Higgins had 2 triples and 3 RBI. Faith Uhlenkott had 2 singles and 2 RBI. Kylie Tidwell had 2 singles and an RBI. Peery had a homer and 2 RBI. Ross had a double and 2 RBI. Remacle had a double and an RBI. Hiler had a single and 2 RBI. Kodie Tidwell had a single. Bruegeman and Poxleitner each had an RBI.
Higgins pitched all 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Vs. Kendrick
In the opening game against Kendrick Prairie fell behind early but rallied to win by 7 runs.

She stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.
Prairie tied it in their half of the first. Ross hit a 2-out single to left and Remacle followed with a pop fly double to right that scored Ross.
Kendrick took the lead back in the second inning with 5 runs on 4 hits, a walk and an error.
Prairie was able to answer back with 3 runs in the bottom of the second. Higgins hit a popup that was dropped for an error by the pitcher. Poxleitner then reached on a passed ball on strike 3, Kodie Tidwell walked to load the bases. Kylie Tidwell singled to left to score Higgins and Poxleitner and Faith Uhlenkott singled to left to score Kodie Tidwell and cut the deficit to 4-6.
Kendrick extended the lead to 4-8 in the third with a 2-out rally. After 2 quick outs a double, walk, hit batter and single led to 2 runs.
Prairie rallied back in their half of the third though to take their first lead. Bruner led off with a single and Higgins followed with a single. A passed ball advanced both runners. Josie Peery walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Bruner. Poxleitner grounded out with Higgins scoring. Kodie Tidwell reached on an error with Peery scoring. Kodie stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Kylie Tidwell was walk and scored when Uhlenkott singled to left and the leftfielder misplayed the ball. Ross singled to left to score Uhlenkott and make it 10-8.
Uhlenkott got Kendrick out in order in the fourth and Prairie extended the lead with 4 runs in their half of the inning. Peery beat out an infield single and Poxleitner doubled to left to score Peery. Kodie Tidwell blooped the ball behind first for a single and Kylie Tidwell followed with an infield single that scored Poxleitner. Kodie scored on a wild pitch and Ross singled to score Kylie and make it 14-7.
After another scoreless inning by Kendrick, Prairie had a chance to end the game on the 10-run rule but hit 3 infield pop-ups.
Kendrick came back in the sixth with 3 runs thanks to 2 errors and 2 hits to pull within 14-11.
Prairie came up with 4 in the bottom of the sixth with a “team cycle.” That is they had a single, double, triple and homer in the inning. Poxleitner walked to lead off the inning and scored on Kylie Tidwell’s 1-out double. She then stole third and scored on a wild pitch. Uhlenkott tripled to the gap in left center. After a second out Remacle crushed a ball to left that landed over the fence for her first over the fence home run to make it 18-11. Bruner and Higgins each followed with singles before the inning ended.
Kendrick was able to load the bases with 1 out in the seventh before a strange play ended the game. The batter took a full swing and hit the ball about 6 inches in front of home plate. Remacle was standing on the plate when she picked up the ball to force the runner at third and then tagged the batter for a rare unassisted double play by the catcher.
That win clinched the league title.
Prairie pounded out 18 hits in the game with Kylie Tidwell collecting a double and 2 singles and 4 RBI. Uhlenkott had a triple and 2 singles and 2 RBI. Ross had 3 singles and 2 RBI. Remacle had a homer and a double and 3 RBI. Bruner and Higgins each had 2 singles. Poxleitner had a double and 2 RBI. Tidwell had a single and an RBI and Peery had a single. 
Uhlenkott pitched the whole 7 innings allowing 11 runs on 10 hits with 6 walks, 2 hit batters and 4 strikeouts. She struggled throughout with her command, throwing a lot of pitches that hit the dirt in front of home plate.
In the second game Higgins got the call to pitch again.
Kendrick was again the visiting team and scored 2 runs in the first on a walk and a double with the second run scoring when the batter was deemed safe at first but thought she was out and headed for the dugout. Prairie wound up tagging the base for the third out after the run had scored.
Prairie got one of the runs back when Kylie Tidwell led off with a triple and scored when the throw to third got away.
In the second inning Higgins survived a leadoff double with no runs scoring. She then scored the tying run in the bottom of the inning after leading off with a single. She stole second and scored on India Peery’s infield single.
Kendrick scored a run on 2 doubles in the third to retake the lead but it didn’t last long.
Prairie sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third and scored 7 runs. Ross led off with a double and Remacle followed with an RBI triple. Bruner dropped a fly ball in front of the left fielder for a single to score Remacle. Higgins walked. Bruner wound up scoring on wild pitch as Higgins moved to third. Higgins then scored on Jodie Peery’s groundout. India Peery reached on an error and Kodie Tidwell waked. Both runners scored on Uhlenkott’s single to left. Uhlenkott then scored to make it 9-3 on a double to left center by Ross.
Kendrick answered with 4 runs to pull within 9-7 on 3 hits and a walk. The third hit was a triple and she was able to score on a high throw to home.
Prairie answered back with another 7-spot in the fourth. Kendrick’s defense fell apart as they committed 5 errors in the inning. Bruner, Higgins, Josie Peery and India Peery each reached on an error to open the inning. Kodie Tidwell then doubled to deep center. Kylie Tidwell walked and Ross reached on another error as the ball went right between the shortstop’s legs with 2 runs scoring. Remacle then singled to center to score Ross and make it 16-7.
Kendrick scored 3 in the fifth on 2 hits, a walk and an error to cut the lead to 16-10.
In the bottom of the fifth Josie Peery led off with a double to left. After an out Kodie Tidwell reached on a dropped third strike with Peery scoring, Kylie Tidwell doubled to left with Kodie going to third. Kodie was then able to score on a passed ball that didn’t go more than 6 feet behind home plate. Faith Uhlenkott drew a walk and stole second. Sarah Ross then swung at strike 3 and reached when the ball got away with Kylie scoring. Uhlenkott came around to score and end the game on the 10-run rule when a throw got away on the same play.
Prairie had 14 hits in the game. Remacle had a triple and 2 singles and 2 RBI. Kylie Tidwell had a double and a triple. Ross had 2 doubles and an RBI. Kodie Tidwell and a double and a single and an RBI. Josie Peery had a double and 2 RBI. Bruner and Higgins each had a single and an RBI. India Peery had a single.
Higgins pitched 5 innings allowing 10 runs on 9 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Prairie is 13-0 in league play leading into their game at Cottonwood against Genesee on Tuesday and 15-0 overall.
