Lady Pirates win District title
For the first time since 2013 the Lady Pirates are District Champions after an 8-5 win over Genesee Saturday, May 13 at Orofino in the District Championship game. Earlier in the day they beat Kendrick 15-9 to clinch a trip to State Earlier in the week they ended the regular season with a huge comeback win over Genesee, 12-11 in 8 innings on Tuesday, May 9. On Thursday, May 11 they eliminated Kamiah 17-2 in a District play-in game. The latter two games were both played at Cottonwood.

In their final regular season game Prairie completed an unbeaten regular season with a huge comeback against Genesee.
Prairie trailed 0-8 after 3 innings with starting pitcher Faith Uhlenkott unable to get an out in the first inning. Leah Higgins came on and pitched the remainder of the game.
Prairie still trailed 0-8 after the top of the fourth and then started their comeback. They posted 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit in half. Each team scored a run in the fifth and Genesee added one in the sixth for a 5-10 lead.
Prairie put up another 4-spot in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 1 at 9-10.
Prairie tied it with a run in the bottom of the 7th to send the game to extra innings. In softball the last player to make an out the previous inning starts the inning on second base in extra innings. Genesee was able to score a run and retake the lead at 10-11.
In the bottom of the inning Kodie Tidwell started on second base and Kylie Tidwell reached. Uhlenkott then singled home Kodie to tie the game and Sarah Ross singled to score Kylie with the winning run.
Higgins struck out 4 in her 8 innings of work.
Prairie had 9 hits in the game as Kylie Tidwell and Sam Remacle each had a double and a triple. Sydney Bruner had a double and a single and Uhlenkott, Ross and Higgins each had a single.
Genesee had 12 hits.
This is the first time Prairie had swept a season series from Genesee since 2012, which is the last time they won a state title. In 2012 Prairie actually 10-runned Genesee all three times they faced them, including district.

Play-in vs Kamiah
On Thursday, May 11, all 8 teams in the league were involved in loser-out play-in games with the top 4 seeds all winning.Leah Higgins pitches in the play-in game against Kamiah. Also shown is first baseman Sydney Bruner.
Prairie hosted Kamiah and won 17-2 with the game ending in the bottom of the third on the 15-run mercy rule.
It didn’t start well for Prairie as Uhlenkott’s struggles with her control continued. She gave up a single and walk, got 2 outs and then walked 3 straight hitters, forcing in a pair of runs. At that point she was lifted in favor of Higgins again who needed just 3 pitches to induce a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.
Kamiah had just  1 baserunner the rest of the game, a leadoff single in the third.
Prairie meanwhile got a leadoff triple from Kylie Tidwell in the bottom of the first. After an out Ross reached on an error as Kylie scored. Ross stole second and then a wild pitch moved her to third. She then scored on a wild pitch on ball 4 to Bruner. Bruner stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on another passed ball to give Prairie a 3-2 lead. Higgins walked, Josie Peery was hit by a pitch and Sierah Poxleitner was walked to load the bases but the inning ended when Higgins was called out at the plate trying to score on a passed ball.
In the second inning Kodie Tidwell led off with a single and stole second. Kylie Tidwell beat out an infield hit with Kodie going to third. Kodie scored on a wild pitch with Kylie advancing all the way for first to third on the same wild pitch. Uhlenkott scored Kylie on a sacrifice fly to center.
Ross restarted the rally with a triple to the gap in left center. Remacle struck out but reached first as the ball got past the catcher. Bruner singled to score Ross. Higgins was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Alexis Hiler, running for Remacle, scored on a wild pitch. Bruner scored on another wild pitch. Peery and Poxleitner were both hit by pitches to reload the bases. Higgins scored as Kodie Tidwell grounded to third for a forceout of Peery. Kylie Tidwell then tripled over the head of the centerfielder to score both Poxleitner and Kodie Tidwell and make it 11-2.
Prairie needed 6 runs in the third to end the game on the mercy rule. Ross opened the inning with a walk and scored on Remacle’s triple to the gap in right center. Hiler, again running for Remacle, then scored on a wild pitch. Bruner tripled down the right field line and scored on Higgins’ groundout to make it 14-2. Peery walked and Poxleitner was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up on Kodie Tidwell’s groundout and Peery then scored on a wild pitch. Poxleitner scored on Kylie Tidwell’s double to right to get Prairie within a run of ending it. Kylie went to third on a wild pitch and then scored the game-ending run when Uhlenkott reached on an error.
Prairie hd 9 hits in the game led by Kylie Tidwell who had 2 triples, a double and a single and 3 RBI. Bruner had a triple and a single and an RBI. Ross and Remacle each had a triple and an RBI. Kodie Tidwell had a single and an RBI. Uhlenkott and Higgins each had an RBi.
Higgins pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit and no walks with 1 strikeouts. Uhlenkott pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed 2 runs on 1 hit with 4 walks and a strikeout.

Vs. Kendrick at District
Higgins got the call to pitch against Kendrick at District on Saturday and got through the first 3 innings unscathed as Prairie built a 10-0 lead.
Josie Peery charges in to catch a popup against Kendrick at District.With 1 out in the first Faith Uhlenkott reached on an error and Ross walked. Remacle then doubled down the left field line to score Uhlenkott. Ross scored on a groundout by Bruner for a 2-0 lead.
In the second Peery, Poxleitner and Kodie Tidwell all walked to load the bases with nobody out. Kylie Tidwell singled down the left field line to score Peery. Poxleitner was then forced out at home on a grounder to third and after a strikeout, Remacle singled up the middle to score both Tidwell sisters and make it 5-0.
In the third Poxleitner singled to left and stole second. With 2 out Kylie Tidwell reached on an error as Poxleitner scored. Kylie wound up at second on the play. Uhlenkott singled up the middle to score Tidwell and Ross walked. On a double steal the ball was thrown into left field and Uhlenkott scored. Remacle walked and Bruner singled home Ross. Higgins then singled to score Hiler, who was running for Remacle, to make it 10-0.
After stranding 5 baserunners in the first 3 innings, Kendrick finally got to Higgins in the fourth. After a leadoff double Higgins gave up her only 2 walks of the game to load the bases. A bloop hit to left scored Kendrick’s first run. Kendrick got another run when the runner on first was forced at second.  A couple of errors led to 2 more runs and Kendrick had closed within 10-4.
Prairie didn’t score in their half of the fourth and Kendrick cut the deficit to 3 with 3 more runs in the fifth. Kendrick’s first two hitters singled then Higgins got a pair of outs on a fly ball to right and a popup to first. Kendrick then scored their 3 runs on back to back doubles.
This time Prairie was able to answer back with 4 runs in their half of the inning. Remacle led off with a single and Hiler, again running for Remacle, scored on a 1 out looping double to right by Higgins. Peery walked and when the ball got away on ball 4 Higgins headed for home only to wind up in a rundown and she somehow made it safely to the plate for a run. Poxleitner then single home Peery and Kylie Tidwell singled home Poxleitner to make it 14-7.
Kendrick’s first 3 hitters in the sixth had hits and the Tigers scored 2 more runs to make it 14-9.
Prairie added a run in the bottom of the sixth as Ross led off with a single but was forced at second by Remacle. Bruner singled and Hiler wound up scoring on a wild pitch to make it 15-9.
In the seventh Higgins had her only 1-2-3 inning of the game to end it and clinch a trip to state.
Prairie had 14 hits in the game with Remacle having a  double and 2 singles with 3 RBI. Kylie Tidwell had 3 singles and 2 RBI. Higgins had a double and a single and 2 RBI. Poxleitner and Bruner each had 2 singles and an RBI. Uhlenkott had an RBI single and Ross had a single.
Higgins gave up 12 hits and 9 runs in 7 innings while walking 2 and striking out 2.

District Championship
In the District Championship game against Genesee Uhlenkott went back to the circle and seemed to have found her lost control. Faith Uhlenkott struggled to throw strikes earlier in the week but found her form again in time for a strong outing against Genesee at District.She walked 4 batters in 7 innings while striking out 3. She gave up just 2 runs through the first 6 innings and was able to weather a 3-run rally in the 7th thanks to having a 6 run lead to start the inning.
Uhlenkott shut out Genesee in the first two innings. Prairie scored 1 in the first after Kylie Tidwell drew a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout by Uhlenkott and scored on a groundout by Ross.
Prairie made it 2-0 after 2 innings when Higgins hit a 1-out double to the gap in right center. She went to third on a passed ball and scored on Poxleitner’s 2-out single to left
Genesee plated a run in the third on a pair of singles but Prairie answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. Kodie Tidwell led off with a double to left and Kylie Tidwell singled to left. Uhlenkott walked to load the bases. Ross then doubled to straightaway center  with the centerfielder knocking down the temporary fence in an effort to make the catch. 2 runs scored on the play with Uhlenkott winding up on third. Remacle walked to reload the bases and Uhlenkott scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Higgins that made it 5-1.
Neither team scored in the fourth but Genesee added a run in the fifth. Genesee got a walk and a single to start the inning. A grounder to short led to a force at third. A bloop single behind second base loaded the bases. A run scored on another grounder to short which turned into a force at third. After a walk reloaded the bases the inning ended on another grounder to short for a forceout at third.
Prairie answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as Kylie Tidwell led off with a single and stole second. Uhlenkott then singled up the middle with Tidwell scoring to make it 6-2.
Uhlenkott pitched a 1-2-3 6th and Prairie added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the inning.
Higgins double to right center to lead off the inning and went to third on a wild pitch. Peery grounded back to the pitcher and Higgins tried to score but was thrown out at the plate. Peery went to second on a wild pitch and Poxleitner walked. Kodie Tidwell singled to left to score Peery. Kylie Tidwell walked and Uhlenkott grounded to short to score Poxleitner and make it 8-2 heading into the 7th.
Genesee got a pair of singles to start the inning that led to a run scoring. Then Uhlenkott struck out the #3 hitter in the order. A groundout to short scored another run. A single followed by a triple cut the lead to 8-5 but Uhlenkott then induced a grounder to first baseman Bruner who tossed to Higgins covering the first base bag for the final out.
Prairie had 9 hits in the game led by Higgins who had a pair of doubles and an RBI. Kodie Tidwell had a double and a single and an RBI. Kylie Tidwell had 2 singles. Ross had a double and 2 RBI. Uhlenkott had a single and 2 RBI and Poxleitner had a single and 1 RBI.
Uhlenkott allowed 10 hits and 5 runs with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Genesee left 8 runners on base compared to just 5 for Prairie. 
Prairie takes a 19-0 record into the state tournament. They will get a first round bye and will play at noon Friday at Airport Park in Lewiston against the winner of Potlatch vs. Notus game.

Prairie to play at noon Friday
The 1-A State Softball Tournament will be held at Lewiston’s Airport Park this Friday and Saturday, May 19-20.
As District Champion Prairie gets a first round bye. Their first game will be at noon and they will play the Notus-Potlatch winner. Notus was the 2nd place team from District 3. The Notus-Potlatch and Genesee vs. Glenns Ferry games will start at 10 a.m. The Genesee-Glenns Ferry winner will play Horseshoe Bend, the District 3 champion, also at noon.
The noon game winners will play each other at 10 a.m. Saturday. The losers will play the 10 a.m. game losers at 2 p.m. Friday. Another loser out game will get the tournament down to 3 teams at 5 p.m. Friday.
The loser of the 10 a.m. game on Saturday will play the loser-out survivor at noon on Saturday. That loser will finish third. The winner will then take on the unbeaten team at 2 p.m. If necessary a second championship game would be played at 4 p.m.
