more dates added for Farmers' Market
Due to the late produce season, vendors and customers alike asked that the Grangeville Farmers’ Market be extended beyond the last scheduled day of September 16. As of press time, the Grangeville City Council had not yet given their go ahead to hold two additional markets in Pioneer Park. If allowed, the GFM will be open for business on Saturday, September 23 and 30 at the usual hours of 9 AM to 1 PM at Pioneer Park on East Main Street. If not approved, another location will be announced. The GFM is working with the Veterans’ Center on Main Street to hold the Market in their building. The weather has been lovely, now that the smoke has cleared a bit and ripe produce abounds; tomatoes, corn, watermelon, grapes, nectarines, peaches, apples, blackberries as well as huckleberry jam and elderberry syrup. Produce at the Market comes from the Twin Bridges area, Culdesac, Southfork Clearwater Valley and around the Grangeville area. All produce qualifies for EBT purchases. Winners from the September 9 raffle drawing from completed surveys included Robin Strong of Joseph, Annmarie Schwartz of Ferdinand and Pat Taft of Grangeville. Each winner received a five dollar Market gift certificate. Thanks go out for all of the community support the Market has received, this year. Musicians included Gordon Talley, Rick Weholt, Ron Weisz, Syndicat Bros., Ryan Campbell and some traveling troubadour who just happened to stop by with his guitar. Musicians at the Market play for tips and little gifts from the vendors. Please remember to support them when you’re shopping. And thank the all volunteer steering committee and staff as well. Thanks, also, to Joe Armstrong-Nelson of Chips and Sparks Creations, Kooskia for making the “No dogs allowed in Park” signs and to Grangeville Builders who supplied the materials. Due to the hot summertime weather, the Market will adapt hours and close one hour earlier on Saturdays, next year. The Market will remain the same during the Summer Concert Series on Thursday evenings in July, but the Saturday Market will be open from 9 AM to noon in 2018.
