Summit takes 3rd at Grangeville Tournament
Summit’s Lady Patriots wound up tying for third at the Grangeville Tournament then completed a season sweep of Highland 25-10, 25-9, 25-22 on Monday, Sept. 18 at Craigmont.
Grangeville Tournament
At the Grangeville Tournament they opened the day with a 25-23, 25-9 win over Kamiah then lost to Nezperce 25-22, 17-25, 13-15 and to Prairie 14-25, 13-25. 
That put them third in their pool and put them up against Logos, who had taken second in the other pool, in the quarterfinals. Summit knocked off the Knights 25-23, 25-22 to advance to the semifinals where they played Prairie again. They lost to Prairie 18-25, 21-25 to wind up tied with host Grangeville for third place at the tournament.
Vs. Kamiah
In Summit’s early morning match at Grangeville they faced Kamiah and after falling behind 0-2 rallied for a 7-2 lead behind Lexi Currier. Currier had 2 aces while adding 2 second touch kills. Lauren Stubbers and Taylor Lustig each added a kill as well.Summit’s Kayla Rehder won this joust at the net with a Logos player at the Grangeville Tournament.
From there the two teams battled back and forth until Kamiah mounted a late rally that got them within into a tie at 23-23. At that point Kayla Rehder scored a kill to get to game point and with Erin Chmelik serving, Kamiah made a hitting error to end the game.
Summit then dominated the second game.
Stubbers served an ace and Claira Osborne scored a pair of kills to make it 8-3.
Kamiah got within 11-8 before Lustig scored a kill to send Claira Osborne to the service line.  She had 5 aces and Lustig added a kill as Summit took an 18-8 lead.
After a pair of sideouts, Currier served out the match. She had 3 aces while Stubbers won a couple of jousts at the net and Lustig scored the match winning kill.
Vs. Nezperce
Summit fell behind in the first game against Nezperce 2-7 then fought their way back into the game. A couple of blocks by Claira Osborne and an ace by Chmelik cut the deficit to 10-11. 
Claira then served Summit into the lead with an ace followed by a kill by Lustig.
The rest of the game was played very close with the lead changing hands a couple times. Finally, down 21-22, Claira Osborne scored a sideout kill and went back to serve. Lustig scored 2 kills to get to game point and Stubbers scored the game-winning kill.
A kill by Stubbers and 2 aces by Currier gave Summit a 3-0 lead in the second game but then Nezperce rallied.
The Indians took the lead for good at 8-9 and pulled away for an 8-point win.
Nezperce then took a 3-7 lead in the third game and held the lead until bricking a serve to make it 7-10. Claira Osborne then served 2 aces, Hailey Stubbers scored a kill to tie it and another ace gave Summit an 11-10 lead.
After Nezperce tied it, a kill by Stubbers gave Summit back the lead. That was it though as Nezperce outscored them 1-4 to take the game and the match.
Vs. Prairie

After that loss Summit wound up in third place in their pool.
Quarterfinal vs. Logos
In championship bracket play Summit played Logos, whose only loss to that point was to eventual champion Salmon River.
In the opening game Summit jumped out to a 5-1 lead with Stubbers scoring 3 kills, Chmelik 1 kill and Lustig an ace.
Logos came back and eventually led 8-13. 
Summit got back within 1 at 14-15 after 3 straight aces by Currier.
After a trade of sideouts, Lustig served Summit back into the lead with 2 aces plus a kill by Stubbers.
Summit never relinquished that lead as they were able tosideout most of the Knights serves. Stubbers wound up scoring the game-winning point by winning a joust at the net.
The second game saw Summit trail at 7-9 but took the lead on a tip by Clair Osborne followed by a kill by Lustig and 2 aces by Chmelik.
Logos tied it at 12 and again at 13 and finally at 22 but could never retake the lead.
Claira Osborne won a joust at the net to give Summit the lead for good and Stubbers followed with a pair of kills to end the match and clinch a share of third place for the Patriots.

League match at Highland
From coach Shirley Stubbers:
Summit won in 3 games:  25-9, 25-9, 25-22.  Setters Lucy Osborne and Lexi Currier did an excellent job executing the new 6-2.  The whole team had a great night serving—Taylor Lustig served 10 in a row in the first game.  Kayla Rehder, Lexi, and Claira Osborne were also flawless with their serving.
Two JV games were also played, Summit won both, 25-7, 25-13
Summit is now 4-3 in league play and 6-7 overall counting their 2-3 match record at the Grangeville Tournament.
