Vs. Lapwai
The home match against Lapwai was Dig Pink Night for Prairie volleyball. Lapwai wore pink t-shirts with their numbers while Prairie had dark grey shirts with pink numbers and lettering. The breast cancer awareness fundraiser was Angela Wemhoff’s senior project.Angela Wemhoff goes high for a spike on Dig Pink night against Lapwai. Also shown are Josie Peery and Theresa Wemhoff.
In the opening game, Prairie jumped out to a 7-0 lead and were never threatened. Madison Pecarovich had 1 ace while Wemhoff and Josie Peery each had 3 kills.
Later Sydney Bruner served 3 aces with Wemhoff adding another kill for a 15-2 lead.
Lapwai was unable to score a single point when serving in the game.
Lapwai managed to hold the lead early on in the second game with their final lead at 9-10 after bricking a serve for a Prairie sideout. Peery scored a pair of kills to make it 11-10 before missing a serve. Peery scored another kill for a sideout and Pecarovich then served Prairie into the lead for good. She had 2 aces while Wemhoff and Peery each added a kill to make it 16-11.
Lapwai never got closer than 4 the rest of the game.
The third game saw Lapwai score the first point but that was their only lead.
Pecarovich scored a sideout kill to tie it and Theresa Wemhoff served a pair of aces to give Prairie the lead for good.
Kristyna Krogh, coming off an ankle injury, had a huge service run that broke the game open. She took over at 9-5 and served 9 points in a row with 5 aces. Leah Higgins added 3 kills with Hiler adding a kill as well.
Leading 18-5, Prairie lost their intensity and Lapwai rallied back with their own big service run. They got 6 points in a row to cut the deficit to 20-13, but could get no closer. Twice more they got within 7, at 22-15 and 23-16, but a kill by Krogh and an ace by Alexis Shears ended the match.
For the match Peery had 13 kills, including a block. Leah Higgins had 10 kills, 1 assists and 1 ace. Angela Wemhoff had 8 kills, 5 assists and 2 aces. Pecarovich had 7 kills, 13 assists and 3 aces. Shears had 1 kill and 1 ace. Bruner had 3 aces.
The JV team split with Lapwai, with their JV team being mostly varsity players, 25-19, 22-25.
Lapwai took the early lead in the opening game at 1-4 but a kill by Sabrina Lustig and 3 service points by Sierra McWilliams gave Prairie a 6-5 lead.
From there the game went back and forth with Prairie able to maintain the lead except for a 6-6 tie.
It was still just a 2- point lead at 17-15 when Hope Schwartz scored a kill and Emma Gehring followed with an ace and Lustig added a kill for a 20-15 lead. Prairie then held a 4-6 point lead the rest of the game.
Lapwai also took an early lead in the second game at 2-4 but Anna Kaschmitter served 3 straight points to give Prairie a 7-6 lead. She had an ace and India Peery added 2 kills.
Prairie again fell behind though, and although they kept it close, couldn’t get back into the lead.
They were behind 14-22 when Lustig scored a kill for the sideout and Peery went to the service line. 3 aces, 2 kills by Lustig and a kill by Peery from the back row tied the game at 22-22.
Lapwai then scored the sideout and the final 2 points of the match.
At Troy
At Troy, Prairie managed to win the first game 25-19, before succumbing in each of the next 3 games, 10-25, 22-25 and 21-25 to lose the match. Despite the loss, it was a much more competitive match, excepting the second game, than when they played the Trojans at Cottonwood earlier.
It was also Troy’s Senior Night.
At Lapwai
The return match at Lapwai was a little tougher than the one held 6 days earlier at Cottonwood as Prairie got off to a slow start in each game.
Of benefit to Lapwai is that they did not play a JV match this time and their players were fresher as many varsity starters were also in the JV match last week. Prairie may also have been a bit overconfident due to the ease of their win last week.
Lapwai jumped out to a 0-8 lead in the opening game Monday. Prairie managed to turn things around and chipped away at the deficit. Bruner served a couple of aces and Theresa Wemhoff had 3 aces in a 5 point service run that tied the score at 13.
Madison Pecarovich spikes the ball at Lapwai.Prairie finally took their first lead of the game on a couple of aces by Angela Wemhoff at 18-17.  A back row kill by Angela made it 19-17.
Lapwai wasn’t done yet as they managed to reclaim the lead at 20-21.
A kill by Kristyna Krogh tied it and Prairie took back the lead on a kill by Leah Higgins. A missed spike by Prairie tied it but Theresa Wemhoff scored a sideout kill and then served the final 2 points for the win.
Prairie fell behind 0-3 in the second game before getting on the board as Lapwai missed wide on a spike. Pecarovich then served 5 straight points for a 6-3 lead. Hiler and Angela Wemhoff each had a pair of kills and Jordyn Higgins added another.
Prairie built the lead to 6 points at 18-12 when Pecarovich’s serving turn came around again. She served 2 aces and Hiler and Angela Wemhoff each added a kill to make it 22-12. After a trade of sideouts a block by Hiler and an ace by Jordyn Higgins gave Prairie a 2 games to 0 lead.
In the third game Prairie gave up just 2 points at the start and rallied for a 5-4 lead after an ace and then a back row kill by Bruner.
Lapwai then reeled off 7 straight points to take a 5-11 lead.
Prairie rallied back to tie the score at 14-14 after 2 aces by Hiler but were unable to retake the lead until Bruner scored 2 aces to make it 20-19. Prairie led one more time at 23-22 after 2 aces by Angela Wemhoff but Lapwai then scored the sideout and closed out the game.
Lapwai again took a 0-3 lead in the fourth game but Prairie came back to take the lead on a 5 point service run by Bruner. She had 2 aces while Leah Higgins scored a kill and a block and Angela Wemhoff scored a kill for a 10-5 lead.
Lapwai rallied back to take the lead at 14-15 before Theresa Wemhoff tied it with a free ball kill from the back row. Pecarovich then served an ace as Prairie took the lead for good. Peery added 2 kills and Angela Wemhoff another for a 19-15 lead.
Lapwai served only 2 more times in the game and Prairie scored the sideout both times as they wound up winning by 8.
