Lady Pirates win 2 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 2 out of 3 volleyball matches this past week. On Tuesday, October 3 they swept Clearwater Valley in a league match 25-11, 25-17, 25-8 at Cottonwood. They then lost a non-league to Orofino the same evening, 13-25, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25. Finally on Thursday, Oct. 5 the won at Grangeville 25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-11.
Vs. C.V.
Prairie had little trouble winning against C.V. as they never trailed the entire match.
Josie Peery scored the match opening kill and Madison Pecarovich served an ace that followed a kill by Andrea Wemhoff for a 3-0 lead.
Kristyna Krogh served a could of aces and Theresa Wemhoff  added an ace with Leah Higgins scoring a couple of kills as Prairie built at 12-4 lead.
After a pair of sideouts, Leah Higgins served 5 aces out of 6 serves as Prairie took a 19-5 lead.Alexis Shears serves an ace against C.V. She is one of the seniors who will be honored Thursday at Senior Night.
They matched points with C.V. the rest of the way for a 14-point win.
Pecarovich served Prairie to a 3-0 lead in the second game with an ace in between a kill each by Jordyn and Leah Higgins.
Prairie never had any big service runs in the second game but would get 2 or 3 points at a time to usually just 1 or 2 for C.V. as they steadily increased their lead.
The third game saw the only tie other than 0-0 when C.V. scored a sideout to tie the game at 1-1. They then bricked the served and Jordyn Higgins served Prairie to a 5-1 lead as Peery scored a kill and a block and Angela Wemhoff added a kill.
Sydney Bruner and Angela Wemhoff each had a 4-point service run as Prairie built their lead to 15-4. Bruner had 4 aces while Angela Wemhoff had an ace with Alexis Shears scoring a pair of kills and Alexis Hiler scoring with a block.
Shears served next and had 2 aces with Pecarovich adding a kill to make it 19-5.
Hiler then served Prairie to match point with 2 aces plus a kill each by Peery and Jordyn Higgins. C.V. scored a sideout before Peery ended the match with a kill.
For the match Leah Higgins had 8 kills and 7 aces. Peery had 8 kills, including 2 blocks. Pecarovich had 4 kills, 14 assists and 3 aces. Angela Wemhoff had 4 kills, 8 assists and 2 aces. Jordyn Higgins had 4 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Hiler had 4 kills, including a block, and 4 aces. Krogh had 2 kills, 5 assists and 3 aces. Shears had 2 kills and 4 aces. Theresa Wemhoff had 1 kill and 1 ace. Bruner had 6 aces.
In the JV match Prairie raced out to a 10-0 lead behind 8 aces from Hope Schwartz in the opening game and went on to sweep C.V. 25-6, 25-16, 15-8.
In that opening game Ashton Landers and Emma Gehring also had good serving runs.  Landers had a 4-point run that took the lead from 13-5 to 17-5 with 1 ace and a kill  with Gehring and Schwartz each adding a kill.
Gehring’s run end that game as she took over at 18-6 and served 7 straight aces.
In the second game Prairie fell behind 3-7 but Sierra McWilliams served them back into the lead. She took over after a sideout made it 4-7 and served Prairie to a 13-7 lead with 7 aces plus a kill by India Peery.
The lead held at 6-8 points until Anna Vinsova went to the service line at 21-13. She served 2 aces and Peery added a kill to get to game point. C.V. scored a kill and warded off two more game points until Vinsova scored a back row kill to end it.
The third game was tied at 5-5 when Vinsova served 4 straight aces to give Prairie the lead for good.
Ellea Poxleitner wound up serving a match ending ace.
Vs. Orofino
In the Orofino match a fresh Maniac team jumped all over a Prairie team that had just finished playing a match as the Maniacs jumped out to leads of 0-6 and 4-14 on their way to a 12 point win.

The game was close early on and Theresa Wemhoff served Prairie into a13-6 lead with 3 aces plus a pair of kills by Leah Higgins.
Orofino closed back within 2 at 17-15 with Angela Wemhoff then scoring a sideout kill and serving Prairie back to a 21-15 lead with 2 aces plus a dig of a spike by Bruner that wound up as a kill.
An ace by Leah Higgins got Prairie to game point at 24-20. Prairie had trouble getting that final point as Orofino closed within 24-23 before getting called for a back row attack for game point.
In the third game Prairie took a 7-2 lead after an ace by Bruner but Orofino came back and eventually took the lead at 12-13. 
Prairie took back the lead at 17-16 after a 3-point service run by Bruner as she had an ace while Leah Higgins scored on a block and a first touch kill at the net.
Prairie led at 18-17 and 19-18 as Leah Higgins scored 2 more kills, but Orofino final took back the lead for good at 19-20 and wound up winning by 4.
In the fourth game Orofino jumped out to a 2-9 lead but Prairie came back .
At 5-10, Leah Higgins scored a sideout kill. With Angela Wemhoff serving, 2 more kills by Leah cut the deficit to 8-10. After a trade of sideouts, with Krogh scoring a kill for Prairie, Theresa Wemhoff served Prairie into the lead. A kill by Leah Higgins and an ace tied it. Another kill by Leah put Prairie into the lead and a stuff block by Leah made it 13-11.
Orofino took back the lead at 15-16 but a Kill by Peery tied it and Krogh served Prairie back into the lead as she set up Angela Wemhoff for 3 straight kills to make it 19-16.
Orofino came right back with 4 straight to take back the lead. Prairie was able to tie it at 20, 21 and 22 but weren’t able to get back into the lead and Orofino scored the final 3 points of the match to win it.
For the match Leah Higgins wound up with 18 kills, which includes 3 blocks, with 3 assists and 1 ace. Peery had 13 kills, including a block. Angela Wemhoff had 13 kills, 10 assists and 3 aces. Pecarovich had 4 kills, 14 assists and 3 aces. Theresa Wemhoff had 3 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Krogh had 2 kills, 14 assists and 1 ace. Jordyn Higgins had 2 kills, 2 assists and 1 ace. Bruner had 2 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces.
At Grangeville
On Grangeville’s Senior Night, Prairie came away with a workmanlike win as they won handily in the first two games, saw Grangeville pull out the third game and then won big in the fourth game to win the match.
Angela Wemhoff had 15 assists on the night with Peery scoring 12 kills and Leah Higgins 10.
Prairie is now 15-9 on the season and 6-4 in league play.
