Wildland firefighter job opportunities
Are you looking for a career as a Wildland Firefighter?  Starting November 1 through 15, the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests will be looking for a committed, hard-working, highly skilled workforce to suppress wildfires and work in fuels management in north central Idaho. The fire and aviation management program is very rewarding and requires talented people, working safely as part of a team, in a variety of specialized positions; including dispatch, engine crews, fuels management, hand crews, helitack, interagency hotshot crews, and prevention.
From November 1–15, 2017, the Northern Region of the U.S. Forest Service (Northern Idaho, Montana, and the Dakotas) will be accepting applications for jobs, through a process called Fire Hire, in a variety of firefighting positions on the Nez Perce-Clearwater and other National Forests in the region. Interested individuals can apply for these jobs on www.USAJobs.gov.
Fire Hire is a Forest Service process that the region uses to hire the majority of its permanent workforce in fire management positions at the GS-5 through GS-9 grade level. During this event, GS-4 through GS-9 firefighting positions will be open for applications on USAJobs.gov in areas such as dispatch, engine crews, fuels technicians, hand crews, helitack, interagency hotshot crews, and fire prevention. Visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/r1/jobs/?cid=STELPRD3821130 for more information about Fire Hire.
The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests is also hiring through the U.S. Forest Service Wildland Firefighter Apprenticeship Program. The apprenticeship program will develop the knowledge and basic skills necessary to work as a wildland firefighter.  Apprentices will complete on-the-job training as well as a residential firefighting academy at the Wildland Fire Training Center in California. Apprentices will be paid, and all costs of training will be covered by the Forest Service. Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices will be in permanent GS-5 firefighter positions. Applications for the Firefighter Apprenticeship Program can also be submitted from November 1-15, 2017. For more information about the positions, including eligibility and how to apply, please visit https://www.fs.fed.us/working-with-us/jobs/work-for-nature.
