6th grade service project
What an experience the 6th grade class had for their service project for the month!
22 kids, 13 moms and grandmothers and 1 crazy teacher sewed and ironed pillowcases for the Shriners Hospital. The slogan for the class was “Sow Kindness, Gather Love”.
After watching a few videos discussing what the Shriners Hospital is about and who their patients are, the class knew this project needed to be tackled. 130 pillowcases was the goal. Besides donating to the Shriners Hospital, the students made 1 pillowcase for themselves and 20 were donated to the Idaho County Foster Care children.  After the material was purchased the students picked out which material they wanted to sew then the moms gave instructions on sewing and ironing seams. The students then started working on their own with very little guidance from the moms. Our goal was met, the pillowcases were sent off and we all felt very good about helping out the children at Shriners.
The class would like to thank Tara Klapprich, Dione Severns and April Lustig for being our sewing bosses! Lydia Deiss, Denise Poxleitner, Kathy Seubert, Brenda Kaschmitter, Millie Wimer, Mollie Wimer, Samantha Lustig, Kathy Uptmor, Lynn Rehder and Shirley Gehring and Sue Tacke for being our guides through the sewing and ironing process. The class learned many lessons: you need to listen to all the directions, do things right the first time, it is better to give than receive and most of all think of others first.
