Summit Acacemy holds Nativity Play
Summit Academy held their nativity play, Jesus our Light, on Thursday December 14th.
All students participated in the performance which depicted the Nativity story.  The play opened with the high school students reflecting on what Christmas means to them.  They sang a medley of Christmas tunes, then turned their thoughts to the coming of Christ, which shifted the setting to a much earlier time period. The 7th and 8th grade girls depicted the creation of the world and the fall of Adam, which gave us the need of a Savior.  The audience then jumped in time to the Annunciation and Joseph's dream, acted by the high school students.  The stars, portrayed by the 3rd and 4th girls, were delighted and danced at the news of the Savior's coming.  Girls in 1st and 2nd grade also rejoiced in their dance as angels.  Girls in 5th and 6th grade, dressed in gold, performed a dance as 'Gloria Girls' to announce the news of the Christ Child.  Boys in 5th through 8th portrayed a scene with King Herod.  First, three prophets read the signs of the Savior's coming.  Their script aligned with the popular Christmas carol "Do You Hear What I Hear," and involved listening to a shell, and looking at a globe and mystical light, then breaking the news to the unhappy Herod.  This was followed by the arrival of the Three Kings who confirmed the predictions of the prophets.  Shepherds were played by the 1st through 4th grade boys who operated as a military unit.  They were taught how to handle their slingshots (with dangerous results), and answered the head shepherd with "Sir, yes Sir!"  Their sheep had mixed with the goats and the head shepherd demonstrated how goats are leaders and sheep are followers, even right off the edge of the stage! The preschool and kindergarten students finally arrived on stage in the final scene as the animals.  They sang about how they would entertain Jesus in the stable.  The students and faculty then processed onto the stage and presented their gifts to the infant Jesus.  Throughout Advent, students and faculty have been giving the gift of their time to Jesus.  These were written down and wrapped, and presented as beautiful offerings to Him.  All those in attendance were invited to visit the Christmas room, an annual tradition created by the 11th and 12th grade.  The room was a quiet and cozy firelit home which invited everyone to slow down and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ at Christmas.
