Lady Pirates win big at Genesee
In their first game back after the Christmas break the Prairie Lady Pirates showed no signs of rust as they rolled to a 71-21 win at Genesee Friday, Jan. 5.
Jordyn Higgins got Prairie on the scoreboard first with a basket but Genesee responded with a pair of baskets by Courtney Burt. That turned out to be the only time Genesee would lead and the last time they were really in the game.Josie Peery goes to the hoop for 2 of her 21 points at Genesee.
Prairie responded with a 14 straight points and ended the quarter with an 18-2 run. Josie Peery scored 7 of those points and Higgins 6 as Prairie forced 15 first quarter turnovers. Prairie led 20-6 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter was just as dominant as they held Genesee to just 2 free throws while scoring 21 themselves. Peery kept up the scoring load with 8 second quarter points on 4 for 4 shooting as she dominated in the low post. Jordyn Higgins added 5 points and India Peery scored 4 including a 3-pointer.
Genesee had 12 more turnovers in the second quarter for 27 in the first half as the Prairie defense just smothered them.
It continued in the third quarter as Prairie outscored Genesee 19-9 to take a 60-17 lead into the final period. 
Prairie held Genesee for almost 2 full quarters without a basket, from the 3:22 mark of the first quarter until the 5:04 mark of the third.
Josie Peery scored 6 in the quarter with Madison Shears coming off the bench to score 4.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and subs in on both sides. Prairie still outscored the Bulldogs 11-4.
Josie Peery wound up with 21 points to lead the scoring. She was 9 for 13 for the field after a 6 for 7 first half. Jordyn Higgins added 16 points. Both players had more than Genesee when they left the game in the third quarter. Shears scored 8, India Peery and Kristyna Krogh 6 each, Sydney Bruner 4, Alexis Hiler and Theresa Wemhoff 2 each and Leah Higgins and Kodie Tidwell 2 each.
Burt led Genesee with 8 points but had just 2 after the first quarter.
Prairie outrebounded Genesee 30-18. Josie Peery led the Pirates with 6 rebounds.
10 different players had at least 1 steal led by Jordyn Higgins with 10 and Bruner, India Peery, Leah Higgins and Shears with 4 each. Prairie forced 41 turnovers from Genesee, 30 by way of steals.
Leah Higgins and Theresa Wemhoff each had 4 assists.
Prairie was 26 for 43 from the field, 60%, and 17 for 31 at the line, 55%. Genesee was 6 for 24 from the field, 25%, and 9 for 12 at the line, 75%.
Prairie is now 11-0 on the season, 7-0 in league play.
The JV team also stayed unbeaten with a 42-5 win. All 5 of Genesee’s points came in the first half as Prairie outscored them 19-0 in the second half.
Genesee actually scored first in the game then Prairie scored the next 19 straight points. 
Prairie led 13-2 at the end of the quarter with Ciara Chaffee scoring 5 and Kodie Tidwell and Kendra Duclos 4 each.
Madison Shears scored 6 in the second quarter with Tidwell adding 4 as Prairie took a 23-5 lead at the half. 
Chaffee had 6 in the second quarter with Tidwell adding another 4 points as Prairie scored 14 in the third quarter. They added 5 more in the fourth quarter which was played with a running clock.
Tidwell wound up with 14 points to lead the scoring with Chaffee adding 11. Duclos and Shears scored 6 each with Ashton Landers scoring 3 and Brooklyn Riener 2.
Prairie had a 36-20 advantage on the boards with Chaffee pulling down 9 rebounds and Duclos 7.
Tidwell had 6 steal with Duclos adding 5 and Sydnee Bruegeman 4 while 5 different players each had 1 assist: Halle Klapprich, Shears, Landers, Duclos and Riener.
Prairie was 19 for 52 from the field, 37%, and 10 for 19 at the line, 53%. Genesee was 2 for 17 from the field, 12%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%.
