Pirates win 2 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to Moscow 46-51 Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Cottonwood. They bounced back with a pair of easy league wins though as they routed C.V. 85-7 at Cottonwood on Thursday, Jan. 11 and won at Potlatch 65-22 on Saturday, Jan. 13. 
India Peery dominated Prairie’s first quarter scoring with 8 points as Prairie led much of the way. Jordyn Higgins scored on a transition lay-up and Sydney Bruner added a couple of free throws. Moscow took the lead right at the end of the quarter with a 3-pointer to make it 12-13. Josie Peery scored a putback and Bruner added a 3-point play to give Prairie a 17-13 lead early in the second quarter. Moscow came back to tie it at 17 and then took the lead at 19-21. A basket by Leah Higgins tied it at 21 but Moscow answered with a basket and then scored on a tip-in at the buzzer by star player Gracey Meyer for a 21-25 halftime lead. Moscow built a 23-30 lead in the third but Prairie answered with a 7-0 run to tie it. Josie Peery scored a free throw, India Peery scored inside and then Jordyn Higgins, who hadn’t looked for her shot to that point of the game, scored a pair of baskets to tie it. Moscow took back the lead but Jordyn answered with a 3-pointer to give Prairie the lead and Leah Higgins added a free throw as Prairie took a 34-32 lead into the fourth quarter. Josie Peery scored on an inbounds play to open the fourth but Moscow answered with a 3-pointer. A 3 by Leah Higgins put Prairie back up by 4 but Moscow answered with a 0-6 run to take back the lead at 39-41. Prairie was able to tie it at 42 on a basket by Bruner but Moscow then took the lead for good as Prairie was held to a couple of baskets by Theresa Wemhoff over the final 2 minutes of play. Moscow was able to short-circuit Prairie’s transition game by committing just 10 turnovers in the game. The Bears had 3 good perimeter shooters back up by Meyer who seemed able to score inside whenever needed. India Peery wound up as Prairie’s leading scorer with 11 points with Bruner adding 10. Jordyn Higgins scored 9, Leah Higgins 8, Jose Peery 5 and Wemhoff 4. Prairie held a 40-29 edge on the boards led by Josie Peery who had 10. Leah Higgins added 9 rebounds and India Peery 8. Leah Higgins, India Peery and Josie Peery each had 2 steals.Jordyn Higgins had 4 assists while India Peery had 3. Prairie was 17 for 45 from the field, 38%, and 11 for 21 at the line, 52%. Moscow was 19 for 49 from the field, 39%, and 8 for 15 at the line, 53%. The JV team beat Moscow by a score of 33-28. Prairie trailed 7-11 after one quarter but outscored the Bears 5-0 in the second quarter to take a 12-11 halftime lead. Madison Shears had a big third quarter with 9 points to lead Prairie to a 15-6 advantage in that quarter. They took a 27-17 lead into the fourth. Shears sat out the fourth quarter and Moscow was able to rally to within 4 points at 31-27 with 2:59 left. The defense clamped down on both sides with Ciara Chaffee and Ellea Uhlenkott each picking up a blocked shot. Neither team scored until Chaffee did with 42 seconds left to make it 33-27. Moscow added a late free throw for the final margin. Shears scored 11 to lead the team with Chaffee adding 10. Kendra Duclos scored 6 with Kodie Tidwell scoring 4 and Hope McIntire 2. Prairie had a 37-33 edge on the boards led by Chaffee with 12 and Duclos with 8. Chaffee and McIntire each had 5 steals while Duclos had 4. Uhlenkott had 2 assists. It didn’t matter who Prairie had on the floor, they still dominated over the Rams evidenced by the quarter scores of 26-0 in the first, 15-2 in the second, 26-3 in the third and 18-2 in the running clock fourth quarter. Josie Peery scored 18 points to lead the scoring with Kristyna Krogh scoring 10. Ciara Chaffee and Madison Shears scored 9 each while Jordyn Higgins scored 8, Alexis Hiler 7, India Peery, Sarah Ross andKodie Tidwell 5 each, Leah Higgins 4, and Wemhoff, Bruner and Kendra Duclos 2 each. It was 53-18 after 3 quarters and the fourth quarter was played with a running clock. Potlatch wound up making just 5 baskets the entire game, all from 3 point range as Prairie shut them down inside the arc. Leah Higgins led the scoring with 13 points with cousin Jordyn Higgins adding 12. Josie Peery made it 3 scorers in double figures with 10. Bruner added 8 points with India Peery, Krogh and Shears adding 5 points each. Chaffee scored 4 while Hiler scored 3. Prairie had 48 rebounds in the game with Josie Peery, Hiler, Jordyn Higgins and Bruner tying for the rebounding lead. Jordyn Higgins had 6 assists and India Peery had 4 steals.
