Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates had a couple of easy league wins this past week winning 63-9 over Kamiah at Cottonwood on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and 59-17 at Troy on Saturday, Jan. 20.
They have clinched at least a tie for first place in the league with just 1 league game left on the schedule, at home against Lapwai on Thursday, Jan. 25.
Vs. Kamiah
Against Kamiah the Lady Pirates executed their offense as well as they have all year as their first 10 baskets in the opening quarter were all assisted lay-ups and the 11th basket was an assisted 3-pointer.Josie Peery gets the inside position for a rebound in the Kamiah game. Sarah Ross is in back.
Prairie jumped out to an 18-0 lead with Sydney Bruner scoring 8 of those points, 6 on lay-ups and the other two at the free throw line. Jordyn Higgins scored 4 and India Peery and Leah Higgins 2 each.
Kamiah finally scored at the 1:32 mark of the opening quarter and Prairie then reeled off another 17 straight points.
Prairie led 27-2 at the end of the first quarter and 35-2 before Kamiah added a free throw with 3:26 left in the half. Prairie then scored another 10 straight points to lead 45-3 at the break.
The scoring pace slowed in the third quarter as Prairie led 56-7 after 3 quarters. 
The only downside to the game for the Pirates was Madison Shears getting injured in the fourth quarter and having to leave the game. She also missed the Troy game but is expected to be back by District time.
Leah Higgins wound up leading Prairie in scoring with 11 points with Bruner adding 10. Jordyn Higgins and India Peery scored 9 each while Theresa Wemhoff scored 7. Josie Peery and Alexis Hiler scored 5 each with Sarah Ross scoring 3 and Kodie Tidwell and Ciara Chaffee 2 each.
Prairie had a 36-16 domination on the boards led by Josie Peery with 9 and Bruner with 8.
11 different players had a steal in the game as Kamiah had 36 turnovers. Leah Higgins and Josie Peery each had 5 to lead the team with India Peery, Bruner and Jordyn Higgins each having 4 steals.
Leah Higgins had 9 assists in the game while Jordyn Higgins had 5.
Prairie was 25 for 58 from the field, 43%, and 10 for 21 at the line, 48%. Kamiah was 3 for 19 from the field, 16%, and 3 for 6 at the line, 50%.
The JV game was nearly as lopsided as the varsity as Prairie won 57-13.
The first quarter was competitive as Prairie led just 8-6 with 2:24 left in the opening quarter.
Prairie broke it open at that point though by scoring 13 straight points. They led 11-6 by the end of the first quarter and 21-6 before Kamiah was able to score again.
Prairie outscored Kamiah 25-5 in the second quarter to take a 36-11 lead.
The onslaught continued as Prairie outscored Kamiah 18-0 in the third quarter. 
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock with Prairie outscoring Kamiah 3-2.
Kodie Tidwell led the JV’s in scoring with 15 points with Ciara Chaffee adding 8, Hope Schwartz 7, Kendra Duclos 6, Ellea Uhlenkott 5, Madison Shears and Kyleigh Duclos 4 each, NakoniaNuttman 3, Brooklyn Riener and Sydnee Bruegeman 2 each and Halle Klapprich 1.
Kendra Duclos had 8 rebounds to lead Prairie to a 41-20 domination on the boards.
Shears had 4 steals and 3 assists.
Prairie was 24 for 59 from the field, 41%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%. Kamiah was 6 for 25 from the field, 24%, and 0 for 9 at the line.

At Troy
In the game at Troy, Prairie used the 3-point shot to take the early lead as they were 4 for 4 from long range in the opening quarter.
Prairie led 4-1 when Jordyn Higgins and Leah Higgins hit back-to-back 3’s with each picking up the assist for the other to make it 10-1.
After a transition lay-up by Jordyn Higgins, India Peery sank a 3-pointer on an inbounds feed from Jordyn.
Jordyn Higgins then capped the 3-point outburst with the final basket of the first quarter to make it 20-3.

Prairie led 40-9 by halftime. Troy was limited to just 2 baskets in the opening half with their other 5 points coming at the line out of 14 attempts.
Prairie scored the first 9 points of the third quart with Jordyn Higgins picking up her third 3-pointer of the game, for a 49-9 lead.
The pace slowed the rest of the third quarter as Prairie led 51-13 heading into the fourth quarter.
Troy scored first in the final period then Prairie scored 8 straight points before Troy got the final 2 at the free throw line.
Jordyn Higgins led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points as Josie Peery and Sydney Bruner added 12 points each. Leah Higgins and India Peery scored 7 each with Theresa Wemhoff scoring 5. Sarah Ross added 2 and Alexis Hiler 1.
Prairie had a slim 26-23 rebounding edge with Josie Peery leading the Pirates with 5 while Leah Higgins had 4.
Leah Higgins had 4 steals and 4 assists while India Peery had 7 assists and Jordyn Higgins had 5.
Prairie was 22 for 45 from the field, 49%, and 9 for 14 at the line, 64%. Troy was 5 for 20 from the field, 25%, and 7 for 16 at the line, 44%.
Prairie is now 16-1 on the season and 11-0 in league play.
The JV team stayed unbeaten on the season with a 35-10 win in a 2-quarter game.
Troy’s JV team did not make a single basket in the game as all their points came at the free throw line.
Prairie jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the game and after a Troy free throw, Prairie scored the next 13 straight points.
Chaffee had 4 points in the opening quarter while Kendra Duclos and Uhlenkott scored 3 each.
Prairie led 16-1 at the end of the opening quarter.
They made it 22-1 in the second quarter before they got to their 7th foul and started sending Troy to the line.
Troy wound up attempting 13 free throws in the second quarter, making 9.
Prairie meanwhile got 6 points each from Tidwell and Chaffee as they made sure Troy didn’t make any headway even with all the free throw opportunities.
Chaffee wound up with 10 points to lead the scoring with Tidwell adding 8. Uhlenkott scored 5 while Riener and Hope McIntire scored 4 each. Bruegeman scored 3 and Schwartz scored 2.
Prairie had a 13-11 rebounding edge led by Chaffee with 4. 
McIntire had 4 steals and 6 assists while Chaffee had 3 steals.
The JV’s were 15 for 29 from the field, 52%, and 6 for 8 at the line, 75%. Troy was 0 for 6 from the field and 10 for 15 at the line, 67%.
