Summit celebrates Catholic Schools Week
Summit Academy is taking part in Catholic Schools Week, held January 28th through February 2nd.  This event, held at Catholic schools throughout the nation, allows schools to focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to the Church, local communities and the nation.  This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.
Summit Academy is one of 1,315 Catholic schools located in rural areas around the US.  This accounts for 20.5% of all Catholic schools.  Catholic schools have a lower student/teacher ratio than public schools as well as a lower cost per pupil.  Based on the average public school per pupil cost of $11,066, Catholic schools provide $20 billion in savings each year for the nation. Catholic Schools Week began for Summit students last weekend, when they wore their uniforms to Mass and were recognized by Fr. Paul Wander.  After Mass, students handed out candies and prayer cards.  The Prayer of Dedication which was printed on the cards is the same prayer that has been recited by Summit Academy students to begin each day since the school opened its doors 20 years ago. The back of the prayer card included an invitation to contact Summit Academy with prayer intentions, which the students will pray for throughout Lent.  If you would like your intention included, please contact the school at: office@summitacademyid.com.
Monday was celebrated as teacher appreciation day. Each student chose their own way to recognize their teacher, whether with a plate of goodies or a special card.  Other activities planned for the week include teachers showing appreciation for their students with a personal note, a special time for Eucharistic Adoration, and a candlelight prayer assembly.
The annual Benefactor Dinner, held to thank our most generous donors, is scheduled for Friday.  This event will allow the school to show our gratitude for those who contribute their time, talent and treasure to better Summit Academy.
Throughout the third quarter, Summit Academy will host a local Catholic business leader each week to speak to junior high and high school students about the trials and triumphs of living their faith in the world.
Summit Academy looks forward to their 20th anniversary this spring with a celebration open to the community.  Please watch for the date to be announced soon.

Summit beat Timberline
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots closed out their regular season with a 44-25 win over Timberline at Cottonwood Thursday, Jan. 25.
It was also Senior Night for lone senior Lauren Stubbers who had a solid game with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 assists.
Summit led just 8-4 after 1 quarter but extended the lead to 19-9 by halftime and 31-17 after 3 quarters.
Erin Chmelik also had a big game with 7 points, 9 steals and 11 rebounds.
Claira Osborne scored 7 with Taylor Lustig  and Jessie Sonnen adding 6 each and Lexi Currier 4.
Summit ends their regular season with a record of 6-6 in league play, good for fifth place, and 6-6 overall.
They were to play at Kendrick Tuesday, Jan. 30, in a loser-out game. If they won that game they would play again Thursday, Feb. 1 at LCSC, likely against #1 seed Nezperce at 6 p.m., unless the Highland-Timberline winner upsets #3 Deary. If that’s the case Summit would play Logos at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Thursday’s two winners play for the District championship at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. The two losers play at 6 p.m. Monday. The 6 p.m. winner plays the championship game loser at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, for second place and a chance to advance to state in a play-in game at Grangeville Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m.
