Summit advances to second place game at District
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots will play Deary for second place at District after winning 2 of 3 District games.
That game will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the Activity Center at LCSC.  If they win that game they will play the District 3 runner-up at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at Grangeville.
The Patriots got to this point by surviving a play-in game at Kendrick Tuesday, Jan. 30, 43-39. They then lost to #1 seed Nezperce 44-62 Thursday, Feb. 1 at LCSC. Finally they knocked off Logos 45-37 Monday, Feb. 5 at LCSC.
Play-in at Kendrick
In a loser-out play-in game against #4 seed Kendrick, the #5 seeded Patriots played an outstanding game.Summit’s Claira Osborne puts up a shot in the play-in game at Kendrick. Also shown is Taylor Lustig.
They took a 14-9 lead after one quarter and extended the lead to 24-17 by halftime.
Kendrick rallied in the third quarter, hitting a buzzer beater to pull within 29-27 after three quarters and then tying the score early in the fourth at 29-29.
Summit was able to keep them from taking the lead though and used timely baskets down the stretch from Claira Osborne, Lexi Currier and Taylor Lustig and some big free throws from Lauren Stubbers to build their lead back to as many as 6.
It’s fortunate they were able to do so because they were in serious foul trouble. One player fouled out while 2 others had 4 fouls. If they had gone to overtime they could have easily been down to just 4 players.
Stubbers led the scoring with 14 points with Osborne scoring 8. Erin Chmelik, Lustig and Jessie Sonnen each scored 6 while Currier scored 3.
Osborne led in rebounds with 17.

After a timeout by Summit coach Alex Frei, Summit came back with 6 straight points as Chmelik, Stubbers and Sonnen each scored to push the lead back to 9 at 43-34 with 2:10 to play.
Logos scored 3 points to pull with 6 and had the back threatening to pull even closer when Lustig made a steal that led to a free throw by Sonnen that gave Summit a 44-37, 3 possession lead with 43 seconds to play. Currier added a final free throw to make the final margin 8.
Stubbers wound up as Summit’s leading scorer with 13 points. She wasn’t able to play in the Summit loss at Logos a month ago. Lustig added 10 points with Currier scoring 9, Chmelik and Osborne 5 each and Sonnen 3.
