Pirates host meet, travel to Challis
The Prairie wrestling team hosted a home dual on Thursday, Feb. 1 and then traveled to Challis for the Mario d’Orazio Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3.
At the home dual Jace Perrin was honored on Senior Night as was his sister Calli Perrin, the stat keeper.
In matches Jace Perrin was 2-1, Sierra McWilliams 3-0, Lane Remacle 1-2, Dalton Ross 1-1, Tristan Staneart 0-2, and William Hooper 0-2.
At Challis McWilliams placed 4th in the 106 lbs. bracket while Perrin was 5th in the 182 lbs. bracket.
106 lbs-McWilliams won a 6-5 decision over Jose Paz of Minico then lost by pin to Riggin Vadnais of West Jefferson in 3:00. Vadnais went on to take first. In the consolation bracket McWilliams won by pin in just 16 seconds over Skylar Cheney of Bonneville then won by forfeit over Layton Clark of Declo who was injured in the semifinals. That put her in the 3rd place match where she lost 4-13 to Kyle DeRoache of Shelley.
113 lbs.-Dalton Ross won by pin over Ty Sherwood of Ririe in 54 seconds then lost by pin in 3:45 to Joseph Lopez of Minico. In the consolation bracket he was eliminated by Harrison Haller-Cruz of Canyon Ridge, who pinned Ross in 3:43.
138 lbs.-Lane Remacle lost his first match by pin in 1:25 to Traven Weihe of Garden Valley. In the consolation bracket he again lost by pin to Ethan Gould of Declo in 1:31.
145 lbs.-William Hooper lost his opening match by pin to Brandon Kimbro of West Jefferson in 53 seconds. In the consolation bracket he lost by pin to Genio Lemus, also of West Jefferson, in 13 seconds.
152 lbs.-Tristin Staneart had byes through the quarterfinals where he lost by pin in 22 seconds to Logan Hernandez of Canyon Ridge. In the consolation bracket he lost again by pin to Cole Jacobson of Wendell in 2:03.
189 lbs.-Jace Perrin also had byes to the quarterfinals where he lost by 7-8 decision to Zane Mecham of West Jefferson. Mecham went on to take 1st place. In the consolation bracket Perrin won by pin over Alonso Ortiz of Glenns Ferry in 2:10. He then won by pin in 4:56 over Duncan Andrus of Bonneville. In the consolation semifinals he lost a 2-6 decision to Chris Gunderson of Ririe. In the 5th place match he won by pin in 59 seconds over Breckin Zieber of Bonneville.
