wrestlers earn medals
Parts of the Prairie wrestling team went to opposite ends of the state Saturday, Feb. 10. Sierra McWilliams took part in Idaho’s first ever all-girls meet, the Jaybird Memorial at Columbia High School in Nampa where she finished 1st in the 109 lbs. bracket. The rest of the team went to Coeur d’Alene for the Lake City JV Tournament. McWilliams won her opening match by pin in 1:01 over Jade Peralta of Kuna. In the semifinals she won by pin in 1:50 over Nadia Alvarado of Ridgeview. In the championship match she won by pin in 3:30 over Savannah Turner of Homedale. There were 18 teams in attendance and Sierra scored 24 points placing Prairie in a tie for 10th. At the Lake City JV tournament Jace Perrin finished 3rd in the 182 lb. bracket and Lane Remacle was 4th in the 138 lbs. B bracket. At 113 lbs. Dalton Ross won his opening match by pin in 2:48 over Avery McSpadden of Post Falls. He then advanced to the semifinals when Taylor Bush of Kellogg had to retire due to injury. In the semifinals he lost by pin to Chandler Axtell of Lakeland in 37 seconds. In the consolation semifinals he lost by pin in 47 seconds to Sam Martin of St. Maries. In the 138B bracket Lane Remacle won by pin over Shelby McIntosh of Lakeland in 50 seconds. In the semifinal he lost by pin to Blaise Wright of Lakeland in 2:45. In the consolation semifinal he won by pin in 2:46 over Max Owens of Coeur d’Alene. In the 3rd place match he lost by pin in 38 seconds to Jacob Crum of Sandpoint. At 145 lbs. William Hooper lost two straight matches by pin. He lost to Aric Fortin of Lake City in 37 seconds then lost to Logan Hunt of Lewiston in 29 seconds. At 182 lbs. Perrin won his first match by pin in 3:47 over Gage Goforth of Lakeland. In the semifinals he ran into Peyton Whipple of C.V. and lost a 3-7 decision. In the consolation semifinals he won by pin over Donovan Varelman of Bonners Ferry in 1:56. In the 3rd place match he won by pin in 2:28 over Ethan Carpenter of Coeur d’Alene.
