3 wrestlers advance to State
Three of the five Prairie wrestlers competing at the District Tournament Saturday, Feb. 17 at Kamiah, will advance to the state tournament.
Sierra McWilliams at 106 lbs. and Jace Perrin at 182 lbs. each finished 3rd at District while Dalton Ross at 113 lbs., finished 4th. The top 3 in each weight class advance to state with Ross making it as an alternate as some other District couldn't fill all their spots.
Lane Remacle at 138 lbs. and William Hooper at 145 lbs. each finished 1 win short of qualifying for state.
106 lbs.-McWilliams received a first round bye then lost by pin to Myles Hanson of St. Maries in the semifinals. She earned third by virtue of their being only 3 wrestlers in her weight class.
113 lbs.-Ross won by pin in 1:58 over Hunter Norris of St. Maries in his first round match. In the semifinals he lost by pin to Sam Martin of St. Maries in 19 seconds. In the consolation semifinals he won by pin in 28 seconds over Gianna Skovajsa of Grangeville. In the third place match he lost by pin in 2:16 to Johnnie Raymond of Kamiah to finish in fourth place.
138 lbs.-Remacle lost by pin to Brody MacCord of Kamiah in 1:32 in his opening round match. He received a bye into the consolation semifinals where he lost by pin in 1:00 to Shaun Anderson of St. Maries. A win there would have earned him a trip to State.
145 lbs.-Hooper lost by pin to Cedar Fisher of Clearwater Valley in 25 seconds in his opening round match. He received a bye to the consolation semifinals where he lost by pin in 1:26 to Gabe Hill of St. Maries. Like Remacle, a win in that match would have earned him a trip to State.
182 lbs.-Perrin received a bye to the semifinals were he lost a 4-8 decision to Chad Dickerson of St. Maries. In the consolation semifinals he won by pin over Jasavan Westling of Orofino in 1:56. In the third place match he won by pin in 3:29 over Kyle Hueth of Kamiah to finish third at District.
As a team Prairie finished 8th at District with 30 points.
The State Tournament starts at 9:30 a.m. MST, Friday, Feb. 23 at Holt Arena in Pocatello. It continues through Saturday afternoon.
