earns 5th place medal
Jace Perrin earned a fifth place state medal in the 182 lb. weight class at the Idaho State Wrestling Tournament held in Pocatello Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24. Perrin won his opening match over Seth Black of Marsing by pin in just 38 seconds. In the second round he defeated #3 seeded Jeremiah Hansen of Soda Springs by 6-3 decision to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals he lost a 5-9 decision to #2 seeded and eventual state champion Zane Mecham of West Jefferson. In the consolation semifinals he lost another decision to Peyton Whipple of Kamiah, this time by 6-9. In the 5th place match he won by pin over Jaden Kinney of Marsing in 1:47. Prairie’s other two wrestlers at state didn’t fare as well. At 106 lbs. Sierra McWilliams lost her opening match by pin in 3:16 to Stetson Machen of Ririe. Machen went on to place third. In the consolation bracket he won by 10-3 decision over Kelson Arellano of Soda Springs. She then lost by pin in 4:13 to Ben Wray of Malad. At 113 lbs. Dalton Ross was out after 2 matches. He lost his opening match by 0-16 technical fall in 3:50 to Clayton Lunt of Grace, who went on to take first place. In the consolation bracket he lost by pin in 1:46 to Kyle Sears of Wendell. Perrin, a senior, qualified for state all 4 years, earning medals in both his junior and senior years. McWilliams and Ross are both freshmen and we look forward to them returning to state in the future.
