Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle:

Letter to editor
It is despicable how these progressive Senators & Congressmen are using our youth to further their agenda to ban guns from law abiding citizens.  They are hypocrites as they walked among the youth with their armed guards.  Why are schools promoting this agenda, I thought schools are to be a place of  learning of preparedness to become citizens who will contribute to the betterment of our country  not a place of propaganda. Wake up people we are at war the evil politicians on the left who want to destroy our freedoms!!

Redneck Review!
No. 152 - 3/19/2018
Maybe, readers, to quote another old saying familiar to some older folks like myself, it is time to "put up or shut up!"  A bit blunt perhaps, but maybe necessary at this time since our last few reviews have mentioned a couple of serious problems we face today, a dangerously large and growing national debt caused by excessive spending by our national government, and an increased climate of intolerance and hatred that destroys our national peace and results often in random killings and violent crimes.
The suggestion here is that these problems are related to and arise from two basic human tendencies!  First, a human willingness to take more than we give, to take for free things requiring no effort on our part, and the second, the tendency in most of us to "do it my way" when faced with decisions that must be made.
And the question posed at the end of our last two reviews was: "Is there any solution?
Well, a hard look at human history and a dash of common sense says that there has to be a couple of characteristics governing our daily lives. The first, that our citizens must become determined to take care of themselves and live by the resolution to give more than they take. Today that means that a hard stand must be taken on the principle that says "I will control my own destiny, and refuse to live off of others, or allow others to take care of me."  Exceptions exist of course, but then, true individual charity must be the answer, based on the Biblical call for all to "love our neighbor" and care for them. It is claimed here that this attitude and life style was basic to the progress made by our country in its beginning stages, and seems to be a dying attitude among us today!
The second characteristic basic to the problems we have today, is the urge to always "do it my way." The solution? Adopt a rule of life which has worked in the past and can work again in the future!  It simply makes sense!  That solution suggested here is to put into practice in our individual lives and in our nation's conduct, the teachings of the Godman, Jesus Christ, whose horrible death and following resurrection will be celebrated shortly during our coming Easter celebration.
Bluntly, there is no other way!  Honoring every person's desire to "do it his/her way" is the road to chaos and eventually to destruction.  The atheism basic to Marxism and its near relatives of secularism and even socialism simply can not work, and has proved to be a failure in every historic place it has been tried.  Islam and its reliance on force and its use of intimidation and death cannot and has not provided an acceptable solution.
So the choice we have is clear.  Chaos, mayhem, destruction and death the choice of all who belligerently insist on doing it "their way", versus the peace and tranquility that can be found putting into practice the teachings of Christianity and its founder, Christ. The choice is clear!  Live by the Ten Commandments and the greatest of all commandments taught by the son of God, Himself:  "Love God with your whole heart and soul and then love your neighbor as yourself."
Is there anything we as individuals can do? For starters, rise above the current notion that the individual is helpless in dealing with the world's problems, and resort to prayer!  During this coming Easter season especially, each of us has the power in our own hands to nudge our old world in the right direction by this simple approach!  Prayers are answered, and it all depends on you and me!  We can and do make a difference!  Count on it!
