Lady Pirates win big at Lapwai
The Prairie Lady Pirates needed just 3 innings to win 20-5 at Lapwai Tuesday, March 20.Shortstop Josie Peery makes a catch on an infield fly ball at Lapwai.
The game ended on the 15-run after 3 innings mercy rule.
Prairie put up 3 runs in the top of the first. Josie Peery led off with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. Noelle Uhlenkott followed with a single as Peery advanced to third. Sarah Ross beat out an infield hit to score Peery.
Lapwai then got the first two outs on a double play on an infield fly. Uhlenkott was caught off second after the catch was made. Kodie Tidwell walk and Leah Higgins singled home Ross. An illegal pitch advanced both Tidwell and Higgins. India Peery walked to load the bases and a wild pitch advanced all the runners with Tidwell scoring. After Sierah Poxleitner walked to reload the bases, an infield pop-up ended the inning.
Higgins made short work of Lapwai in the bottom of the inning with 2 strikeouts and a groundout to first.
Prairie added 6 more runs in the second inning.
Josie Peery led off this time with a triple to the fence in center. She scored on a passed ball. Uhlenkott walked and stole second. Ross then tripled past the leftfielder to score Uhlenkott and scored on Sydney Bruner’s single up the middle. Bruner advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches and then scored when Tidwell reached on an error. Higgins walked and a wild pitch to India Peery allowed Tidwell to score. After Peery popped out, Poxleitner walked. Poxleitner stole second and when the throw went to second, Higgins scored from third to make it 9-0.
Lapwai got on the board in the second as the leadoff hitter walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on another before scoring on Lapwai’s first hit of the game off Higgins.
Prairie led 9-1 going in to the third and sent 15 batters to the plate for 11 runs.
Ross led off with a single up the middle and scored on Tidwell’s single. Tidwell stole second and scored on Higgins double to left. India Peery singled to left to score Higgins and went to second when the leftfielder misplayed the ball. Poxleitner reached on an error with Peery scoring. After Poxleitner stole second, Alexis Hiler doubled to left to score Poxleitner. Hiler scored on a pair of wild pitches.
After a second out, Uhlenkott walked and stole second. She scored on a single by Ross. Bruner and Tidwell walked to load the bases and Higgins doubled to left center to score both Ross and Bruner. Cheyenne Mauer went in to courtesy run for Tidwell, the catcher, and Madison Shears did the same for Higgins, the pitcher. India Peery singled up the middle to score both Mauer and Shears to make it 20-1.
In the bottom of the third Higgins got a quick out then ran into some problems. A walk followed by 2 singles and a triple led to 3 runs and a groundout to second scored another. A single and two walks reloaded the bases before Higgins got out of the inning on a short fly ball to Josie Peery at shortstop.
As Prairie kept Lapwai from getting closer than 15 runs, the game ended at that point.
Higgins allowed 5 runs on 5 hits with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Prairie meanwhile pounded out 14 hits led by Ross who went 4 for 4 with a triple and 3 singles and 3 RBI. Higgins had 2 doubles and a single and 4 RBI. India Peery had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Josie Peery had a triple. Hiler had a double and an RBI. Bruner and Tidwell each had a single and an RBI and Uhlenkott had a single.
Ross, Tidwell and Higgins each made it on base all 4 times they went to the plate while Josie Peery, Uhlenkott, India Peery and Poxleitner each made it on base 3 of the 4 times they batted.
Prairie started a game against Troy at Lewiston on Thursday, March 22 but rain cut that game short with Prairie leading 21-6 after 1 inning. As of yet no date has been set to finish the game.
Prairie is now 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
