Lady Pirates win 5 league games
The Prairie Lady Pirates finally got back on the field after a long break due to Spring Break, state conferences and rainouts. They wound up winning all 5 games they played.
They started with a sweep at Kendrick, 15-8 and 14-2, Tuesday, April 17. On Friday, April 20 they recorded a sweep over Troy at Lewiston, completing a suspended game and then winning the second by scores of 22-5 and 23-0.Finally on Monday, April 23 they completed a season sweep of Culdesac in their first home game of the season, 22-7.
At Kendrick
Sarah Ross had a huge day in the Kendrick doubleheader, especially in the second game, with 3 home runs, a double and 9 RBI.Kodie Tidwell with an RBI single at Kendrick. Noelle Uhlenkott can be seen scoring in the background.
She got the scoring started in the opening game with a 2-run homer to left center after Josie Peery had reached on an error. Sydney Bruner followed with a walk and Kodie Tidwell singled. India Peery then drove both runners home with a double for a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Prairie made it 5-0 in the second when Alexis Hiler was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Josie Peery’s single up the middle.
Pitcher Leah Higgins ran into some trouble in the bottom of the second as Kendrick got to her for 3 hits and a walk with an error also added in to account for 4 runs and close the game to 5-4.
Neither team scored in the third but Prairie added 5 more in the fourth. Josie Peery was hit by a pitch leading off but was forced at second by Noelle Uhlenkott. Ross and Bruner both walked to load the bases. Tidwell then singled to left to score both Uhlenkott and Ross. After a second out, India Peery singled to right to scored Bruner and Tidwell. India stole second and scored when Sierah Poxleitner reached on an error to make it 10-4.
Prairie made it 11-4 with a run in the fifth. Ross swung over a pitch in the dirt for strike 3 with 2 outs but beat the throw to first as the pitch got past the catcher. Bruner walked and Tidwell picked up another RBI on a single to left center.
Kendrick got a run back in the bottom of the fifth and the Prairie defense kept it from being more than one. After an out, Kendrick got back to back singles. The next batter hit a sharp grounder to Josie Peery at short who was able to tag the runner coming off second. A hit batsman loaded the bases. An infield hit scored a run but Prairie got out of the inning on a grounder to third as Uhlenkott was able to beat the runner to the bag for the force.
In the sixth Poxleitner reached on an error and stole second. She moved to third on Hiler’s groundout to first and scored on Josie Peery’s sacrifice fly to left.
In the seventh Prairie added 3 more runs for a 15-5 lead. Bruner, Tidwell and Higgins all singled with Bruner scoring. Tidwell scored on a sacrifice fly by India Peery and Madison Shears, courtesy running for Higgins, scored on a single by Poxleitner.
Kendrick tried to rally from 10 runs down in the bottom of the seventh. A leadoff double, walk and a single led to a run. After a forceout, a walk and an infield single led to another run. Another single made it 15-8 before Higgins got a strikeout to end the game.
Higgins wound up allowing 8 runs on 10 hits with 6 walks, 2 hit batters and 5 strikeouts.
Prairie pounded out 12 hits led by Tidwell who had 4 singles and 3 RBI. India Peery had a double, a single and 5 RBI. Poxleitner had a pair of singles and an RBI. Ross had a homer and 2 RBI. Josie Peery had a single and 2 RBI. Higgins had a single and an RBI and Bruner had a single.

Game 2 vs. Kendrick

In the third Prairie got on the scoreboard when India Peery drew a leadoff walk and stole second. She scored on Poxleitner’s single to right. Hiler followed with a bloop single to short right field. After a popup, Uhlenkott reached on a passed ball on strike 3 as the catcher had to hold the runner at third. Ross then doubled to deep left field to score both Poxleitner and Hiler and make it 3-0.
Higgins, after allowing just 1 baserunner in the first 2 innings, gave up a couple hits each in the third and the fourth but stranded them to keep Kendrick scoreless.
In the fourth Kendrick’s pitcher lost her command and walked the first 3 batters, Higgins, India Peery and Poxleitner, to load the bases. Hiler hit a hot grounder through the shortstop’s legs for an error with 2 runs scoring. Josie Peery then doubled to left to score another run. Kendrick changed pitchers and Uhlenkott hit a 2-strike double to right to score Hiler and Josie Peery. Ross followed with her second homer of the day to score 2 more and make it 10-0.
Higgins struggled to close out the game in the fifth, walking the leadoff hitter and hitting the next. She then got a strikeout and a comebacker for 2 outs but a single up the middle scored 2 runs forcing Prairie to have to hit again in the bottom of the fifth.
In the fifth Hiler drew a 1-out walk on 4 pitches. Josie Peery was hit by a pitch. Hiler scored when Uhlenkott hit a grounder to short that was played into an error putting runners on second and third for Ross. Ross then ended the game with her second homer of the game and third of the doubleheader.
Higgins gave up 2 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks, 1 hit batter and 3 strikeouts.
Prairie had 7 hits led by Ross who had 2 homers and a double and 7 RBI. Uhlenkott had a double and 2 RBI. Josie Peery had a double and an RBI. Poxleitner had a single and an RBI and Hiler had a single.

Vs Troy
Prairie finally completed the suspended game against Troy that was started on March 22 and then played their second scheduled game against Troy. They won the suspended game 22-5 and then won 23-0.
In the suspended game Prairie scored 14 runs in the first inning and after Troy scored 5 in the second, Prairie came back with 8 more in the bottom of the second. The game was stopped due to rain in the bottom of the second after Prairie had scored 7 of those 8 runs.
When the game was resumed Prairie added a run to make it 22-5 and  when Troy didn’t score in the top of the third, the game ended on the 15-run mercy rule.
Prairie had 9 hits in the game led by Ross who had a double and 3 singles. Josie Peery had a homer and a single. Bruner had 2 singles and Higgins added a single.
Higgins gave up 6 hits and 5 runs.
In the second game Prairie scored 5 in the first , 11 in the second and 7 in the third to again win in 3 innings on the 15-run mercy rule.
Higgins allowed no runs on 5 hits in this game.
Prairie pounded out 15 hits in the game led by Bruner and Uhlenkott who each had a double and 2 singles. Higgins had a double and a triple. India Peery had a double and a single. Josie Peery, Ashton Landers, Ross, Hiler and Jade Peery each had a single.

Vs. Culdesac
After two innings the game looked like it would go 7 innings and wind up 25-24 or something like that but Prairie pitcher Higgins settled down after a rough second inning and Prairie went on to win big in 4 innings, 22-7, on the 15 run mercy rule.Jade Peery catches an infield flyball against Lewis County.
Culdesac came out in the top of the first and after an initial out, had 3 straight hard hit balls up the middle. The first two went for hits and led to a run. The third was a line drive out to Ross in centerfield. Higgins was able to get out of the inning with just 1 run scored.
Prairie answered by sending 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, good for 5 runs. 
Josie Peery led off with a walk. She stole second and wound up at third as the catcher’s throw went into centerfield. Uhlenkott hit a grounder to third with Peery scoring. Uhlenkott reached on a throwing error. Ross was hit by a pitch but then forced out at second by Bruner as Uhlenkott scored. Tidwell walked and Bruner and Tidwell both scored as Higgins tripled to deep left center. Higgins scored on India Peery’s groundout to the pitcher to make it 5-1.
Culdesac came roaring back in the second as the first 4 batters all reached base on a walk, single, single and bases loaded walk that forced in a run. The next batter grounded right back to Higgins who threw home for a forceout but catcher Tidwell’s throw to first to try and get a double play got past Bruner and 2 runs wound up scoring. After a strikeout, 2 more singles and an error led to 3 more runs scoring as Culdesac took a 5-7 lead.
Prairie took the lead back with 3 in the bottom of the second. Ross struck out on a pitch in the dirt but reached first. She then wound up on second as the throw back to the pitcher got away. Ross scored on Tidwell’s triple to right. Higgins walked and Tidwell scored on India Peery’s infield hit. Higgins then scored on a wild pitch to give Prairie back the lead at 8-7.
After the rough second inning, Higgins came out and got Culdesac out in order in the third on just 5 pitches. A popup to Bruner at first, a hard grounder to India Peery in right who threw out the batter at first and a groundout to Josie Peery at short.
Prairie sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth for 6 more runs to take a 14-7 lead. The inning starting with Hiler reaching when the centerfielder dropped her fly ball for an error. Josie Peery was hit by a pitch. Uhlenkott then was called out at the plate for interference. She apparently stepped out of the batter’s box on a passed ball and got in the way of the catcher who was trying to throw out Hiler at third. The two runners had to go back to their original bases. Ross then singled to left to score Hiler and Peery scored on Sydnee Bruegeman’s groundout. Ross scored on Tidwell’s hard single down the first base line. Tidwell scored when Higgins doubled to left. India Peery reached on an error and Poxleitner was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hiler hit one through the wickets of the third baseman for an error that scored 2 runs to make it 14-7.
Higgins again got 2 quick outs in the top of the fourth on just 2 pitches before giving up a first pitch single. She then got a groundout to get out of the inning.
Prairie needed 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule. Ross led off with a single and went to second when the ball was bobbled. Bruner followed with a double to left to score Ross. Tidwell walked and Cheyenne Maurer went in as a courtesy runner. Bruner scored on a wild pitch as Higgins drew a walk. India Peery singled up the middle to score Maurer. Poxleitner doubled down the left field line to score both Higgins and Peery. Hiler was hit by a pitch. 2 wild pitches later, Poxleitner had scored and Hiler had advanced to third. Josie Peery drew a walk and Uhlenkott was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ross reached on an error at third with Hiler scoring. Josie Peery wound up going past the bag at third and got put out in a rundown. Bruner then hit a ground ball and Uhlenkott beat the throw home and ended the game.
Higgins wound up allowing 7 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Prairie had 11 hits with Higgins having a double and a triple and 3 RBI. Tidwell had a triple and a single and 2 RBI. India Peery had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Ross had 2 singles and an RBI. Bruner had a double and 3 RBI. Poxleitner had a double and 2 RBI and Hiler had a single. Also collecting RBI were Uhlenkott and Bruegeman with 1 each.
Prairie is now 7-1 overall and 7-0 in league play.
