Whatsoever Things Are True

A wonderful (astonishing) and horrible thing is committed in the land; The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means (own power) and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do on the end thereof?.
Nugget: This was the government when written.  These are  God's words found at the end of Jeremiah 5. The astonishing thing here is not that there is the propensity for great sin, twas always thus. The astonishing thing is that God laments: "my people love to have it so:".   Please don't fall into the worldly trap of writing this off as distant, irrelevant Old Testament stuff; let's look at today through the lens of Romans 1, where God gives a litany of why His wrath is being poured out on mankind.  In the end of that chapter,
The Holy Spirit tells us through Paul, that people are - "Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable (unforgiving), unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in (celebrate) them that do them." In other words, we have devolved to the point where when people do things we intrinsically know are wrong, rather than give a loving rebuke, we make celebrities of them.
Think about that for a minute and we'll turn the Spiritual Switch:  When I was a kid (there I go again), Tolerance meant you have a right to your own opinion, and I had to respect that. Today, tolerance means I don't have the right to disagree with you. Look at the scandal that is the internet, where one side is sanctioned or blocked. I myself have been called horrible names because I have a Biblical World view.
The knee-jerk reaction of many today is to call you names, and shout you down. They think by sheer volume, they win the argument while Proverbs tells us that "The fool is known by his many words".  Also, many will say things from the safety of their computer, anonymity and distance that they would never say to your face, or would only say once. As the world waxes worse, the "norm" becomes distantly substandard from God's laws.  I have a friend who says: "If their dad was too cut dog lazy to correct them, there's not much I can do about it now".
He is right, but still, God cries out to you and I, "come out from among them".  Don't get caught up in the day to day sniping that is the internet. "Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."  Romans 12:17-19.  It is easier to have compassion for them that treat you poorly when you consider the fact that no sin, large or small, will go unpunished. It will either be dealt with on the Cross of Calvary, or an eternity in Hell.  We will give an account, not for what that mean guy said to us, but for every idle thought, word and deed we had.  Meditate on these things.
