Lady Pirates take 2nd at District
The Prairie Lady Pirates needed to win at least 1 game at District to qualify for the State Tournament and they did that when they edged Potlatch 7-6 in their District opener at Genesee Tuesday, May 8. They then lost to Genesee in the championship game 1-4 to take second at District.
They will open state tournament play Friday, May 18 at 10 a.m. MDT against Garden Valley.
Vs. Potlatch
In the two previous meetings with Potlatch the home team had lost by double digits. This time, on a neutral field, it was a very competitive game.
Potlatch jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but Prairie answered back with 2 in their half of the inning and added 2 more in the second to take a 4-3 lead.
Potlatch tied it in the top of the fifth but Prairie answered back with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-4 lead thanks in large part to Sarah Ross who had a 2-run triple in the inning.
Potlatch rallied with 2 runs in the top of the seventh to get within 1 run before Prairie was able to end the game.
Leah Higgins gave up 6 runs on 11 hits in the game.
Prairie had 10 hits of their own led by Josie Peery who had 3 singles. Noelle Uhlenkott and Kodie Tidwell each had a pair of singles. Ross had a triple and Sydney Bruner and Madison Shears each had a single.
