Lady Pirates take 3rd at State
The Prairie Lady Pirates played an unintentional round-robin at the State Tournament at Caldwell Friday and Saturday, May 18-19. They played each of the other 5 teams at the tournament and won 3 of 5 games with their losses coming to the two teams that played for the title.
On Friday they opened with a 5-inning 24-1 win over Garden Valley, the #3 seed from District. They then lost 1-12 to Notus, the eventual state champion and #1 seed from District 3. The finished Friday with a 14-11 win over Glenns Ferry the #2 seed from District 3. On Saturday they eliminated Potlatch 15-5 and then were themselves eliminated by Genesee, 2-15, to finish in third place.
Vs. Garden Valley
The win against Garden Valley was win #300 in the career of Prairie head coach Jeff Martin who started his career at Culdesac.
Garden Valley scored on a home run in the top of the first but that was to be their only run and only lead.
Prairie took the lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the first on a 2-run homer by Sarah Ross. They added 7 more in the second, 5 in the third and 10 in the fourth to earn a 10-run mercy rule win.
Pitcher Leah Higgins  gave up 1 run on 4 hits in the game.
Prairie pounded out 16 base hits led by India Peery who had a homer, 2 doubles and a single. Sydney Bruner had 2 doubles and a single Ross added a single to her home run. Ashton Landers had 2 singles while Josie Peery, Kodie Tidwell, Cheyenne Maurer, Sierah Poxleitner and Hope Schwartz each had a single.

Vs. Notus
In the game against eventual state champion Notus, Prairie scored its only run on a home run by Ross in the third inning. By that time they were behind 0-7. Notus added 4 more in the bottom of the third and 1 in the fourth to win the game in 5 innings on the 10-run mercy rul.
Higgins gave up 12 runs on 10 hits and the Pirates struggled on defense, committing 6 errors.
Prairie had 5 hits in the game, a homer and a single by Ross and a single each by Noelle Uhlenkott, Bruner and Poxleitner.

Vs. Glenns Ferry
In the nightcap against Glenns Ferry on Friday, both teams scored in each of the first 4 innings.
Glenns Ferry scored 1 in the first and Prairie answered with 4 in the bottom of the inning. The Pilots tied it in the second but Prairie answered with 4 more in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-4.
The Pilots cut the lead to 8-5 in the top of the third but Prairie added 2 more in their half to make it 10-5.
In the fourth Glenns Ferry rallied for 6 runs with Sydnee Bruegeman taking over as pitcher in the inning. That gave the Pilots a 10-11 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. 
Prairie tied it with a run in their half of the inning.
Higgins, after getting a breather, went back to pitching in the fifth and shut out Glenns Ferry the rest of the way while Prairie scored 1 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth to win the game.
Each team had 12 hits in the game and 5 errors.
Prairie was led by Bruner who had 3 doubles and a single. Ross had a double and 2 singles. Higgins had a double and a single, Josie Perry had 2 singles and Tidwell and Poxleitner each had a single.

Vs. Potlatch
On Saturday morning Prairie pounded out 13 hits against Potlatch and won in 6 innings on the 10 run mercy rule.
Potlatch scored 2 in the top of the first but Prairie answered with 1 in the bottom of the inning and took their first lead with 4 runs in the second inning.
Potlatch answered with 1 in the third but Prairie added 2 in the inning to make it 7-3. Neither team scored in the fourth but Potlatch added 1 in the fifth only to see Prairie score 3 runs to make it 10-4.
Potlatch tallied 1 more run in the sixth but Prairie came up with 5 runs to end the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Ross had a homer and 2 singles in the game while Higgins had a double and 2 singles. Tidwell had a triple and a single and Poxleitner had 2 singles. Uhlenkott, Bruner and Madison Shears each added a single.
Higgins allowed 5 runs on 7 hits to the Loggers.

Vs. Genesee
In the state semifinals Prairie’s season was ended by Genesee who beat the Pirates all 4 times they played this year.
Prairie won the coin flip and got to be the home team and took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Those would be the only runs they would score that as Genesee tied it in the second and blew the game open with an 8 run third. Genesee added 2 in the fourth and 3 in the fifth to end the game after 5 innings on the 10-run mercy rule.
Prairie was held to just 3 hits in the game, a single each by Josie Peery, Uhlenkott and Poxleitner.
Genesee had 11 hits in the contest. The Bulldogs went on to lose 0-3 to Notus in the championship game.
