Bus routes approved, new music teacher hired
Bus Routes were approved and a new music teacher was approved for hire at the August meeting of the School Board Monday, August 20.
The approved bus routes appear below.
Jonathan Madrid was approved as the new K-12 music teacher basically replacing both Brandy Fiorenza and Laurie Karel who left the district for other opportunities. Madrid is shy of full college graduation requirements and needs an alternate authorization. He will graduate in December.
The auditor report was received and the auditor praised the bookkeeper and said he didn’t find anything of concern.
The board approved a resolution originally generated by the Genesee school District to request that the state legislature fund all-day, every day Kindergarten. 
District and school handbooks and the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High schedules were approved as were policy manual updates and the district’s Child Internet Protection Act regulations.
In her facilities report Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann reported nearly all the summer projects are finished. The rest of the new heating units for the high school arrived earlier in the day and will be installed this week. Gym floors were refinished on July 27-29.
In her elementary principal’s report Forsmann noted she is working on getting things ready for the start of school.
In her superintendent’s report she reported the auditor was here July 27. She attended several meetings, one of which was a meeting in Moscow with IDLA and LCSC to work on finding a solution to continuing the Region II technical academy as funding is cut off as of this year.
A driver’s ed vehicle was purchased. It is a Ford Explorer that was formerly used by the BLM. It could also be used for transport purposes for small groups such as Knowledge Bowl as it seats 7 people.
Jon Rehder reported registration went well and the dual credit meeting was well attended.
There are 63 athletes out for fall sports, 24 for volleyball, 16 for crosscountry and 23 for football.
He said they are still in need of a junior high head football coach. Anyone interested can contact Rehder by email at rehderj@sd242.org. Practice starts after school on August 29 with the first game set for Sept. 6.
The school will have a blood drive again this year in late September, date yet to be finalized.
Jeff Martin and Donald Curry traveled to Bend, Ore. on Monday to get training  on the new plasma table and were to bring it back with them. Rehder said they already have several project ideas for this new tool.
There are 12 dual credit classes at the high school this year.
