Summit swept by Deary
The Summit Lady Patriots dropped to 0-3 on the season after getting swept at Deary Thursday, August 30 by scores of 13-25, 16-25 and 19-25.
Summit fell behind 1-3 to open the first game then for a kill form Taylor Lustig and an ace by Lexi Currier to tie the score at 3-3.Erin Wassmuth makes a pass against Deary. Also shown is Dani Sonnen.
They couldn’t take the lead though as Deary was able to build leads of 5-13 and 7-16. Summit held the deficit at 7-8 points until a missed serve put Deary’s Tona Anderson on the service line. She served 3 straight ace and Deary added a kill for a 12-23 lead.
Summit scored a sideout when she missed the next serve but Deary was able to sideout and then end the game.
Summit got their first lead of the match when Erin Chmelik opened the game with a kill. Summit led again at 2-1 after another kill by Chmelik but that would be their final lead of the game.
Summit was able to tie the game at 3, 4 and 5 but Deary took the lead for good at 5-6 and led by as many as 10 at 14-24 before winning by 9.
The Patriots lost Chmelik to an ankle injury at game point of the second game and coach Jamie Johnson called timeout to let the officials know she had to break up her usual rotation to get her only sub, Dani Sonnen, in to play for Chmelik. Sonnen had been trading off with Erin Wassmuth.
In the third game Deary jumped out to a 0-7 lead.
Summit was able to rally within 4 at 9-13 after a 3-point service run by Erin Wassmuth. She had an ace while Kayla Rehder scored on a block and Lustig added a kill.
Deary answered with 4 straight points and 9 of the next 11 points to take a 10-point lead at 11-21.
Summit was able to pull within 6 at 15-21 as Rehder scored a sideout kill and then served 3 straight aces. 
Deary then scored a sideout and added 2 more to get to match point at 15-24.
Lustig scored a kill for the sideout and then served 3 straight aces to pull the Lady Patriots within 5 at 19-24 before Deary finally was able to score the match-winning point.
For the match Lustig had 7 kills, 2 assists and 3 aces. Rehder had 7 kills, including a block, and 3 aces. Jade Prigge had 5 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Currier had 4 kills, 18 assists and 5 aces. Chmelik had 2 kills and 2 assists. Sonnen had 1 kill and 1 assist. Wassmuth had 2 aces.
Summit is now 0-3 on both the season and in league play.
The Patriots were scheduled to play a tournament at Highland on Sept. 1 but we have no results from that.
Prior to the varsity match Summit played Deary’s JV in a single game and won that 25-17.
Chmelik served 3 aces to give Summit a quick 3-0 lead. After a sideout, Prigge scored a kill and then an ace with Rehder adding 2 kills for a 7-1 lead.
Deary rebounded to take the lead at 12-13 and again at 13-14. A missed serve tied it at 14 and then Chmelik served 4 straight aces to give Summit an 18-14 lead.
Deary again came back to cut the deficit to 2 at 19-17 before Chmelik scored a kill to send Currier to the service line.
Currier scored a second touch kill on a push and then served 4 straight aces to end the game.
