Cross Country team competes at 2 meets
The Prairie Cross Country team concluded their regular season with a pair of meets. They competed in the CV-Kamiah Invitational at Kamiah on Tuesday, Oct. 2 and then in the Inland Empire Challenge at Lewiston Saturday, Oct. 6.
CV-Kamiah Invitational
The girls team placed 1st and the boys team was 2nd at the CV-Kamiah Invitational which featured White Pine League schools.
Ciara Chaffee was the top finisher for the girls team with a 3rd place finish in 23:08. Kendra Duclos placed 8th in 24:47 with Jessie Sonnen right behind in 9th in 25:14. Maria Schmidt was 11th in 25:47 with Kyleigh Duclos in 12th at 26:05 and Hope McIntire in 13th in 26:06. Mattie Lustig was 17th in 27:37.
As a team Prairie beat Potlatch 19 to 42 as those were the only two teams with at least 5 runners.
Kerri Villamor was first among JV runners in 27:49.
Tanner Hibbard was the top finisher for the boys team with a 6th place finish in 19:27. Devin Ross 9th in 20:06. James Villamor was 12th in 21:06. Tyler Wemhoff was 15th in 21:37. Justin Lockett was 19th in 22:15 and William Hooper was 20th in 22:22.
CV-Kamiah took first in the team competition with 27 points with Prairie in second with 51. Deary was third with 76 and Potlatch was fourth with 77.
In the JV race Alex McElroy was 6th in 26:21 and Ryan Arnzen was 10th in 28:11.
Inland Empire Challenge
At the Inland Empire Challenge Prairie competed in the JV races as the meet attracted 4A and 5A schools from all over the state as well as the local smaller schools.
The girls team placed third in the JV race behind Mountain View and Idaho Falls.
Chaffee was Prairie’s top finisher in 10th at 21:08. Kendra Duclos was 27th in 23:04. Kyleigh Duclos was 33rd in 24:02 with Sonnen right behind in 34th at 24:03. Schmidt was 44th in 24:36. Lustig was 52nd in 25:06. McIntire was 56th in 25:32 and Villamor was 69th in 26:37.
The boys race had 213 runners in the JV race. Hibbard was Prairie’s top finisher in 69th at 19:13. Villamor was 95th in 20:01. Hooper was 125th in 20:40. Wemhoff was 140th in 21:13. Ross was 155th in 21:37. Lockett was 164th in 21:55.Arnzen was 210th in 27:31.
In the girls junior high race Julia Rehder was 41st in 17:44 while Zoey Hooper was 45th in 21:42.
The Inland Empire Challenge course will be the same course used for both the District and State Cross Country meets.
