Summit finishes 4th at District
The Summit Lady Patriots volleyball team finished two places higher than their seeding at the District Tournament as the 6th seeded team finished in 4th place after losing to Nezperce 18-25, 25-21, 14-25, 20-25 Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston.
The match started like Nezperce was going to blow them off the floor as the Indians jumped out to leads of 0-5 and 1-11.
Summit rallied to make the score more respectable but still wound up losing by 7.
Nezperce again took an early lead in the second game at 5-10 but Summit fought their way back into it.
A kill by Erin Chmelik and an ace by Wrin Wassmuth made it 7-10.
After 4 straight sideouts, Chmelik served an ace and Lexi Currier and Taylor Lustig each scored a kill to tie the game at 12-12.
Summit finally took their first lead when Lustig scored a kill with Jade Prigge serving to make it 16-15. Another kill by Lustig and an ace by Prigge make it 18-15.
An ace each by Lustig, Wassmuth and Kayla Rehder helped Summit keep Nezperce at bay as they were able to sideout most of Nezperce’s serves.
A kill by Chmelik scored game point for the Patriots and tied the match at 1 game each.
A block and then a kill by Rehder gave Summit a 2-0 lead in the second game but then Nezperce took over.
It was still close at 8-10 after an ace by Dani Sonnen. Nezperce then scored the sideout and Sydney Boyer served 7 straight points to put the Indians in control of the game at 8-18.
Summit was unable to rally back and wound up losing by 11.
Nezperce jumped out to a 6-12 lead in the fourth game but Summit was able to rally back to a 16-16 tie after 3 straight aces by Currier.
Summit was unable to take the lead although they were able to tie it again at 18-18. Nezperce then scored the sideout and an ace and although Summit would score a couple of sideouts to get within 1 at 19-20 and 20-21, could never take the lead.
The seniors, in their final match for Summit, led the way in kills. Rehder had 12 kills, including 3 blocks, plus 1 assist and 3 aces. Lustig had 12 kills, 5 assists and 2 aces.
