School Board meets
At the December meeting of the school board, Jeff Martin and a couple of students did a presentation on the kinds of things they can do with the new plasma table the school received.
They also presented each board member and administrator with a nameplate cut on the plasma table. The metal nameplates were mounted on a wood base that was engraved by the updated engraver.
Carson Forsman and Aaron Goeckner were the students that were part of the presentation.
Also at the meeting the board opened bids on the remainder of the high school heating project. Quality Heating was the low bidder with a bid of $249,797, about $2500 less than Guardian’s bid. The board voted to accept Quality’s bid pending review by Jake Forsmann. After reviewing the bid, Forsmann said they met all the specs. Quality Heating did the previous phase last summer.
Three bids for a new bus were opened ranging from $89,256 to $91,246. Bryson Sales and Service had the low bid and was approved pending review by David Shears. Shears later reported he had a question that needed to be answered on the Bryson bid. Western Mountain bid $89,806 and Harlows bid $91.246. All three bids included a trade-in of the bus to be replaced.
The January and February meeting dates were discussed because they fall on holidays. It was decided to keep the meetings the same although they may look at the February meeting date again at the January meeting. They were looking to avoid a District basketball conflict.
They discussed holding one of those meetings at the Jr./Sr. High School. It was decided to keep the January meeting at the Elementary School and further discuss whether to move the February meeting at the January meeting.
The school calendar for 2019-20 was approved. They tried to keep it as close to this year’s as they could. One difference is that Spring Break will be a week earlier. We will have the approved calendar in next week’s Chronicle.
Resignations were accepted from a school bus driver who has taken a full-time truck driving job and from the Elementary School janitor. No new bus driver has been hired yet and they are still looking for someone interested. Sharon Deimler was hired on a trial basis at an hourly wage as the new school janitor.
Kyle Westhoff was approved as the new head baseball coach with Seth Guyer as assistant coach pending whether enough turn out to warrant a paid assistant.
In the facilities report superintendent Rene’ Forsmann doesn’t have any new projects listed. She reported that by having the heating project bid approved earlier this year that maybe they can get work started earlier in the summer.
In her principal’s report Forsmann reported the Elementary Concert is set for Wednesday at 1 p.m.
She also said Sinterklaas stopped by the school on December 5 and left treats in shoes along lockers, walls and by classrooms. Lydia Deiss did a presentation in Sinterklaas, who is a Dutch version of Santa Claus.
In her superintendent’s report she noted she will be watching the legislative session and will report on items pertinent to schools at future board meetings.
She also left board members copies of proposed legislation to permanently fund Secure Rural Schools.
She is also working on security cameras throughout the buildings and expanding on door lock systems.
Jon Rehder reported the new scoreboards are to be shipped Dec. 20 and they hope to have them installed before the first January home game.
He is trying to get the alumni games revived and include Summit grads as well as community members who may not have attended either school. They are set for Dec. 26 at 6 p.m.
The Idaho County Shootout was a success with Prairie winning the student competition. The senior class won the class competition for most canned food brought in.
The Band concert went very well.
The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m. The next meeting is set for Monday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m.
